I just read a post on caligraphy and it got me thinking....is it really bad taste to use my home printer and a fancy font to address the envelopes (both inner and outer)? Would it look really bad? Will anyone really notice?
I am trying to cut corners where I can and I can't see paying to have it done.

I don't think it's bad to print directly onto each individual envelope. I am not a big fan of the recipient's address being printed on a sticky label, though. Even if it's clear, it is still obvious that it's a label.

Re: Is this in bad taste?
hey, if you can do it and are happy with the way it looks, I say why not. SOme people choose to spend their money on certain aspects of their wedding. For me, caligraphy is one of the lesser important items. I'd rather have a little bit nicer centerpiece, or the wedding band that I REALLY want! Do what makes you happy. I don't think that is in 'bad taste' at all!

I really don't think it matters that much. Honestly, how many people do you think really save the envelopes, and/or give the addressing even a second look.
This is definately one department I am saving money on as well.

I don't think its in bad taste at all-I think it's a good area to try to save a little money.

Re: Is this in bad taste?
that's exactly what I did, the envelopes came out beautifully, if you get the right font and are willing to play around with it to get the perfect effect it'll look professional, fm me for more info.

Re: Is this in bad taste?
I totally agree that it's fine to use a computer to address invitation envelopes. All of the etiquette books say that addresses *must* be handwritten, but the way I see it, I could use that money on a calligrapher or on, say, a singer during dinner, and I'm pretty sure my guests would appreciate the singer a whole lot more.

I was wondering the same thing. My mom wants me to get it hand done...but I might just do the computer.

I think if you get the clear labels it looks fine and can't even notice.

This is what I plan to do! If you have a good printer you can do a great job.

Re: Is this in bad taste?
i made the entire invitation set and i think they came out great...attached is a pic of the font we used for the envelopes...
I think it's totally fine! I've gotten invitations that were done on the couple's home computer, and invitations that were done by hand calligraphy, and both looked good. I mean, personally, I toss the envelope after I open the invitation.....so it's just up to you if it's worth spending the exta money there.

Re: Is this in bad taste?
I don't think it's in bad taste as long as you have a good printer that won't leave streak-y marks on the front or back of the envelope. I had a bit of a problem with this when I was addressing my STDs even though our printer was pretty expensive.

Re: Is this in bad taste?
My mother has a beautiful handwriting. Her writing actually looks like artwork to me. She's going to address my envelopes using a calligraphy pen in her natural handwriting. The calligraphy pens add a little oomph all on their own.
As for your question, I think it's fine to print the envelopes with a nice font. I would stay far, far away from any type of label, clear or not.
