is this irrational?!

is this irrational?!

so FH is going to Vegas for his bachelor party in like 2 weeks. He says all the guys wanna go skydiving.

soooo I am so against him doing this. Not against skydiving in general --- I did it when i was 18 and would again....and wouldnt normally care if he went.

But....I feel like doing something like that 2 weeks before the wedding isnt a good idea. What if he lands funny and breaks a leg or something?! Then we can't enjoy the wedding/honeymoon as much. He doesnt see the big deal.

am i wrong?!?!

I would be afraid of that happening to him, too, but I wouldn't try to stop him from doing it either.

I told FH I didn't want him doing this AT ALL. I probably would have done it 5 years ago myself, I went bungee jumping and stuff, but I feel like now that we have each other if he did something like that and like, smashed and died it would be like, why did he HAVE to do that, when he has a great life and all. I know some people are totally on the other side of the fence about this but I don't believe in risky behavior just for the hell of it when you have people relying on you being around!! And even if I was okay with it I would not want him to right before the wedding for the same reasons as you.

i dont think its irrational. i think going to vegas is enough! it reminds me of that full house episode when jesse freaks out on his wedding day and decides to go skydiving. that being said, i dont think you have anything to worry about safety-wise. does he want to go just because the guys suggested it, or is there a bigger, jesse-like issue underneath?

no i think its just cuz the guys brought it up...none of them have ever done it and thought it would be fun.

My problem with this is where do you draw the line?

Okay, so you're afraid of him getting hurt skydiving, so he doesn't go.

Maybe you're afraid now the plane is going to crash, so he doesn't go to Vegas.

Maybe you're afraid that he's going to step off the curb and get hit by a bus, so he stays home.

I understand these are hyperboles, but they are also still all legitimate fears. Where do you draw the line?

I remember that episode! Jessie went on his wedding day! Now going skydiving on the wedding day..THAT would piss me off. I would let it go if it's part of the plan..I know what you mean though and since I worry about everything, I'd worry about that too.

cant u tell him to wait so that you guys can do it together? you said that you would do it again... the guys will just have to wait too..?

I dont think irrational is the right word... i think its normal to be worried that something could happen... but he could just as easily break his leg walking down the street...

I also dont think irrational is the right word. I would let him go because, like someone posted earlier ' where do you draw the LINE??' He can get hurt just as easily walking down the street than going skydiving.

Plus, the wedding would still be 2 weeks away. Plenty of time IMHO.

Not like the guys going to Vegas in 'The Hangover'...That was a really funny movie...

nope. Def not irrational. I told FH he can't play in his hockey league the season we get married. It's a trade off cuz I'm not playing softball either.

i dont' think it's irrational. going to vegas is enough. he doesnt need to skydive 2 weeks before you're wedding. he could do it any other time. i would put my foot down too lol.

Re: is this irrational?!

i mean i know that he can break a bone just walking down the street....but its different if you are intentionally doing something like skydiving that puts you at a much higher risk of injury.

i mean i dont ever tell FH what to do so if he really wants to he can do it....but I just was telling him I didnt think it was a good idea.

I dont think youre wrong at all! I would not want my FH to do anything like that period. Wedding or no wedding, he has a family now and needs to be there. No point in putting yourself in danger like that. Skydiving is cool, I guess for those who want to do it but its not foolproof.

I draw the line at him flying out of a plane way high above the ground and plummeting to earth in a parachute, lol. It's just too much for my nerves to handle!

Re: is this irrational?!

It's not irrational, more like rational. But like someone else said, where do you draw the line? He doesn't have to break a bone landing funny, he could fall getting into the car going to the supermarket and break a leg (God forbid). Let him go and enjoy himself. If he feels irritated now, it will worsen if he doesn't go because of you. JMO!
