Is this just superstition or is it actually bad?

My FMIL and FSIL gave me lingerie for my bridal shower and it was all black. My family says that it means that my FILs are mourning the fact that I am marrying into their family. I thought that they were just giving me tacky lingerie.

What does everyone think about this?

I don't know about that superstition, and frankly don't buy into most of them.

I think you're fine. Do you have a good relationship with them? They probably just thought black was sexy.

Honestly there are superstitions about everything-

someone told me it is bad luck to get knives and my FMIL bought those for us.

Someone said it was bad luck to let anyone see my dress-well we all know how many people we have showed pics too.

It's not the greatest relationship, but for a superstition, I thought it was a stretch. I'm just annoyed that it's ugly and the wrong size!

I wouldn't even worry about it. And honestly, a month before your wedding your family shouldn't be telling you that your in-laws are mourning you coming into the family! That's just not nice!

I do feel the need to defend my family - they are not from this country and they have all of their own superstitions - they weren't being mean. They were just telling me some old Italian superstition, like they always do.
eta: I just wanted to know if other people believed the superstition - kindly refrain from calling my family 'not nice'. Thanks.

I bought my best friend black lingerie knowing she would like it better than white. I was right - and it was her FH's favorite gift!

I was going to ask that-I have a friend who's mom thinks that no one should wear black unless mourning and that flowers are for the dead. I know that it comes from being 'old school' in tradition
