Is this MY wedding?

Is this MY wedding?

Anyone ever feel like the wedding machine keeps churning and somehow the wedding you are having starts to less and less resemble the wedding you THOUGHT you would have?

I am not getting married on or near the beach
I am not wearing a really cool, flowy dress that isn't 'bridal'
My MOH is not wearing anything REMOTELY close to what I wanted her to wear
My Flowergirl is NOT wearing the dress I asked her mother to get for her.

Now... that is not to say the wedding won't be fun and wonderful and all of that. But it certainly isn't the wedding I was thinking I would have.

Oh well.

oh, I LOVE that term 'wedding machine'

so true... I have so far made my 'vision' become a reality... what has been sacrificed (and is frankly more important) is that the wedding machine has run me over on an almost daily basis, and I am not enjoying what should otherwise be one of the happiest times of my life

I know I'll feel better once the organization thing is over.... I'm doing my best to finish assemblinging the programs and placecards so I can basically can begin to feel better!

I already had another glitch in my plans.... both of my hole punches broke!!!

this was happening to me and i put a stop to it. i literally changed everything and planned my dream wedding in six weeks. it was much smaller than originally planned, but it was the best decision ever.

I feel like I get chewed up and spit out of the 'wedding machine' on a daily basis. I know what I want, but whenever someone has an opinion different than mine, I second guess myself even though I know I shouldn't. Grrrrrrrrrr It's really frustrating!

I was just thinking this the other day and posted a similar topic. I have definitely changed all of my options. If I had stuck to my original plans, my wedding would be on a beach, with 40 guests of family and closest friends only, with a sinple beach dress and everyone in light beach attire.

oh no! you're right, you shouldn't second guess yourself. The only opinions that matter are yours, and your FH's. Besides 90% of this stuff is personal style, with only the remaining 10% of decisions being due to religion and cultural background...

you wouldn't let someone else tell you what clothes to wear or what couch to buy!!!

ah...a kindred spirit!!! I'm soooo there with you. I always pictured a smaller affair too now i'm looking at this ballooning guest list (my mom is one of 10!) and budget.

Not only am I the first in my family of all the 'kids' to get married but I am also the first out of my immediate girlfriends to get married so you can imagine the amount of people trying to live vicariously through our event.

I had to put my foot (leg & arm too) down this past weekend and let everyone know that although I appreciate the opinions do not try to change what i'm picturing.

I've been pushed into a big ole frock, inviting people I have only seen in passing, and trying to get convinced to marry in a church (disclaimer: i'm not a devil worshipper or anything not big on church during the year so why put on a front then?) And yes like you, they're trying to put the FG in a different dress too.

Be strong and don't be afraid to assert what you really want. Only you will be disappointed when you look back on what it could have been and what it turned into.

YUP!!!!!!! I feel the same way!!!!!!!

I wanted a destination wedding........small, intimate and FUN!!!!

We're having a wedding with a guest list of over 300, in a huge church and the reception in a ballroom...NOTHING like I thought it wold be.......

It will still be wonderful, but yes, it's funny how it turned out so opposite

Re: Is this MY wedding?

Can we all give an AMEN! -chuckles- OYE! My wedding is not NAYTHING like what I originally envisioned, but a lot of that had to do with the fact my family is crasy. Even more had to do with the fact we are on a very tight budget and that has curtailed a lot of my creative flow. I feel guilty everytime I even think of a DIY idea for someone else!

* I am not getting married on or near the beach, or in a garden. WHY? because my family had a fit about a destination wedding and pulled the 'so long as you live beneath my roof thing...' HELLO! I am 26 years old! Give me a frickin break. It's MY wedding! The garden idea didnt pan out because sooo expensive.

* I am not wearing a really cool, flowy dress that isn't 'bridal'. WHY? I looked horrendus in it. Chiffon is not a fabric favorable to Latinas with...'natural assets.'

*My MOH is not my MOH anymore! WHY? Well the original had a bridezilla fit of her own-repeated fit after fit, (Called my CP ideas 'tacky,' the BM's dresses 'not flattering to her figure,' and whentold she needed to put the bride's feelings above ehr won, she responded with, 'I don't kiss anyoen's a$$. You should know that.' So CUT!) Thankfully her replacement is my best friend. (Originally she was not in my wedding because she is getting married 3 weeks after I am and I didnt want her to spend yet more moola on my wedding)

* My RH is beautiful but it's still not a garden and I ddint get my watering can CP's because we needed too many flowers and too expensive. Settled for picture frames.

* I have 3 more Bm's then I anticipated on. WHY? I love my cousins but they are barely interested in this wedding. However I felt obligated to have them.

* We wanted 70 people WHY? We wanted an intimate affair. hwoever our families have ensured we will probably have more like 120.

I am sure everything will be great the day of. Its just stressful to that point. I think our biggest issue was nore realizing HOW expensive weddings really are, even when cutting corners.

HERE!! HERE!!!

I guess all we can do is try to assert ourselves as best we can.

BTW: what's up w/ these BP chicks? If I hear one more comment on how a persons parts will look in a particular dress they are wearing TOGAS and Jesus sandals, damnit!!!

You're absolutely right! I know what my style is and what my FH and I are comfortable with. I've really been trying to take a stand and do what I feel is right. Unfortunately I have a VERY opinionated mother who's opinion I do value, but her taste is very different than mine and every decision I make is criticized and questioned. I was forced to sit her down last night and tell her that there will be many things I do that she might not agree with, but its my life and my decisions and she needs to be more respectful of that.
