I've had my hall (Glen Island) booked since January but lately I can't help rethinking my decision. I always wanted to get married at a mansion/estate but I didn't really look at any because I had bad wedding planners who told me that the interior Woodlands was representative of the mansions on LI and if I didn't like that, I shouldn't look at Oheka, Vanderbilt, Bourne, Harrison House, etc. The one I keep thinking about is Harrison House (which I did see on my own the day before I signed my contract with Glen Island). Is it normal to rethink your hall? I mean, Glen Island is beautiful and the food is amazing, but I'm just not sure if it's what I want. But I also know that there's no way I could ever have a Saturday night wedding at any of the LI mansions because their minimums are too high (GI only asked us to guarantee 125). Am I just being the 'grass is greener' girl? Sorry, I just feel like I'm losing my mind
I also wanted to add that part of what I LOVED about Harrision House (and Carlyle too) was that you could have an after-party as well, which I thought would be so much fun. Is there any way to do that if your hall doesn't have that capability? Do people rent out space at a hotel bar? Thanks again!

Re: Is this normal?
My fiance and I were having a conversation about this the other day !! We were saying we shouldve thought about Oheka and places in Manhattan, but you know what, we are so happy with Woodbury.. I cant wait.. Only 5 months left for me!
Everything is going to be just beautiful!! Dont worry!!

I change my mind all the time but, I'm sticking with what I have so I can buy a house too! I would love a wedding at an extravagant hall and I could pull it off and go into hock for the rest of my life so I'm TRYING to just stick with my decision. But, I feel your pain - it's a once in a lifetime experience (FOR MOST)! So, do what your heart tells you to do. The mansions are beautiful but, is the crazy money worth it???

I definitely know what you mean. At this point, we are going to be able to pay off everything as of the wedding date and we won't have any post-wedding debt to worry about--even before we take into account any cash gifts we might receive. And that's a nice thing. Whereas if I tried to do the same thing on a Sat night in LI, I'd be paying at least an extra $20K. I'm just hoping that I can figure out ways to make my hall what I want it to be, somehow recreate the feel of a mansion on the inside if I can't do it on the outside, you know?

Hi- GIHC is an amazing place and will hold up and exceed every expectation that you have! I think it is normal to second guess every decision you have when you are wedding planning! You made the right choice and your day is going to be amazingly beautiful from the hall to the flowers... EVERYTHING!!! Trust your instinct!

I think it is totally normal to second guess decisions. I am not seconding guessing my hall (i love everything about the bourne) but i am second guessing other things (like my dress). FYI - we have the Bourne for a sat night and our min is 130 (during october which is a busy wedding month).
