Is this normal?

Is this normal?

Our new Australian Cattle Dog Kanga is insane with her biting. She is almost three months old, she has all of the chew toys for teething but still nips at our flesh. Is this normal? It is scarey sometimes because she can really hurt. Is this just puppy behavior, will she hopefully outgrow this? Is this something we could learn more about through training classes. I must say she is awesome with crate training, sit, paw, down, and does not chew or go on the furniture. She just LOVES flesh! I am anxiously awaiting her last set of boosters to get her out and socializing with other dogs. Anybody experience this?

puppies looooove to bite. with all their toys, they will still bite your hands, legs, toes. part of it is playing and they don't realize that it hurts.

yep - totally normal, we went through the same thing with Golem when he was that age. It is a phase, but it wil only 'go away' if you train them that hands, clothes, etc. are NOT for biting! Otherwise they'll just keep doing it, they won't just stop on their own - you have to teach them that it's bad behavior. NIpping and biting is how they used to play with their littermates before they became part of your pack. They don't hitnk it's hurting you and they don't knwo any bettter until you correct them. The biting is just their way of communicating, but they need to be taught bite inhibition so they understand that hands are not for biting!

Getting him around other dogs is probably the BEST way to teach him bite inhibition - dogs speak that language to each other that we'll never be able to copy. Once he bites like that with another dog - he'll get put in his place REAL fast! But if he doesnt have all his shots yeat and you dont want to take the chance - just keep at it on your own. Correct him when he bites you - get Tobasco sauce or Bitter Apple and spray yourself if that works too. Every dog is different, so the trick is to find what method works best with your dog and be consistent with it. Puppyhood is the MOST DIFFICULT thing I've ever experienced in my entire life!!! I'll be SO glad once Golem is fully mature! Good luck!

As long as you dont' let them bite when they are older - they need to know that it's not allowed.
