My cousin is having a sweet sixteen next month. The attire is 'black and white' meaning everyone is expected to wear ONLY black and/or white.
Is it normal for girls to have parties and tell their guests what to wear? Apparently my cousin wants to stand out...so she's wearing red. I'm almost tempted to wear a red dress.
I just happen to find it a little obnoxious to tell your party guests what color to wear. Never happened when I went to sweet sixteen like 10 years ago. Is this normal now?

LOL! My little cuz is having her sweet 16 this weekend. On the invitation it said 'no green'. Only she is allowed to wear green (her fav color). I kind of thought it was rude at first to tell your guests what to wear but apparently all her friends did this too. I think it is ridiculous but whatever. I guess its her day. I don't really like green anyway!

I kind of look at it being the 'theme' not so much she is telling everyone what to wear....yea its a little obnoxious for a 16yr old to tell u what to wear...but I guess its her party.

As much as it is a little rude for her to send that requirement, I wouldn't wear red...just think how you'd feel if someone showed up to your wedding wearing a white dress.
But yeah, I think that 16 is a little early to be so demanding.

my sisters are all in their teens and have sweet 16's to go to just about every other weekend. A lot of them seem to have dress requirements that are passed off as themes. My one sister has to get like a new outfit every wee just for these parties...it is nuts!

I don't think that having a black and white themed party is all that abnormal nowadays...its actually kind of fun and easy for girls because what girl does not have a black and/or white dress..... don't wear red though...that wouldn't be good and it would prob make your cousin angry and it is her sweet sixteen (in essence her day) its like someone close to you wearing a white gown to your wedding (which is a no no)

I was JUST talking about this with my friend tonight. She makes and sells invites and was working on some for a sweet 16...with a black/white dress code. She said it's really popular these days.
If I was the parent of these kids...I would be annoyed that I had to buy a new dress to match all the color schemes!

Re: is this normal now?
LoL! That cracks me up. Everyone is a 'My Super Sweet Sixteen' wannabe. One of my co-workers went to a sweet sixteen last weekend and the birthday girl had a dais with her 'BFFs' and all the girls wore the same dress as if they were bridesmaids, and those select few BFFs got to ride in the limo with her. Hahaha. I was 16 not very long ago, and things have COMPLETELY changed!

lol one of my jr bridesmaids for her sweet 16 had a black and white party...the guests wore black and white, She wore red, and her friends were all told a color to wear. Apparently for all of their friends parties, the 'mean girls' wear chosen colors

My 13 yr old cousin is already planning her sweet 16 party ( I know!) lol and she wants to do almost the same thing. She wants all her guests to wear black and she will wear a pink dress. Maybe it is the new trend for sweet 16's?

its soo common to have a theme.. cuz thats ALL this is.. a THEME. i mean i hope the guests attire will match the decor..cuz if it doesnt then shes just wack lol..
but please PLEASE do not wear red to be spiteful. Just remember, your wedding day is coming up... would u like it if some1 wore white??

Re: is this normal now?
lol im not really gonna wear red...im not that big of a btch.
but i def. dont think you can compare wearing a certaiin color to a sweet 16 to someone wearing white on your wedding day. two COMPLETELY different things. there's no such thing (yet ) as 'sweet sixteen etiquette' and until there is, i wouldnt compare it to 'dont wear white to a wedding' wedding etiquette.
