Re: is this normal now?
IS this supposed to be some Super Sweet 16 thing?? I have never heard of this for a 16 y/o's party, but I guess times have changed since we were all 16..

yes i have heard of this before. i also have been to a lot of sweet 16s recently where the girls on the dais wear the same dress. like bridesmaids do. completely ridiculous. FH already said our future daughter is not allowed to have a sweet 16.
omg my sister did the same thing for her 21 birthday last month her and 2 of her friends had a huge party( they all turned 21 around the same time) all the guest had to wear black and white except for them they wore bright colors with Tiaras lol it was really cool!!
I've actually been to a sweet 16 where they told us to wear black & white. My friend's sister told everyone to wear, pink and black. A lot of girls are doing it nowadays. My cousin even went to a wedding where the bride told guests what color they could and could not wear.
My cousin wore what looked like a bridal gown to her sweet 16...it was ridiculous! Most of these girls now are treating these 16th birthday parties like weddings instead of having normal parties in a hall. I've actually gone crossed out a few vendors on here because I've had a cousin that had her birthday party there...is it wrong to not want to have the reception for my big day in a place where my cousin and her friends celebrated 16???
I have heard of this but I think it cool.....who doesnt wanna wear black??? lol....JMO.
yea there is no such thing as 'sweet sixteen etiquette' but I compared wearing the red dress to someone wearing a white dress to your wedding because I just think its an unnecessary thing to do and in either situation, its an obvious slap in the face to the host of the party or wedding. I think that the show 'my super sweet sixteen' has made 'themes' like this popular but when I was in high school, there were certain parties that had themes like this such as a Hollywood glam party and a quince bday party. Shows now are just giving teenagers new ideas for their parties....just as long as the teens don't get totally out of hand and completely bitchy at their parties like they do on the shows, then I think its cool. I didn't mean to offend you by comparing the wearing white to a wedding to wearing red to an obviously non-red wearing sweet sixteen party though. lo siento
