I just got off the phone with the lady from my photo/video place. She was calling to go over some details and get directions and stuff.
She mentioned that I have 600 proofs included in my package and that I will be charged $30 for every 36 proofs past 600....
I just kinda yes-ed her to death, because I had noticed a film charge on my contract with the same wording (they put it in a little box in the upper corner). I didn't think I had to worry about it because the photographer shoots digital- therefore no film!
Is this a BS charge? Should I fight it? Can I fight it? I signed the contract months ago...

So I called asked her to explain what the charge is for and she said that since they shoot in digital, they can take upwards of 1000 pictures, but that many of the pictures are duplicates, or not great shots, blurry, etc...so they eliminate those and try to keep the number of proofs to around 600 (which is what is included in most of their packages I think- except the ones that cost a fortune and a half). Sometimes, they find that they can only whittle it down to 700 or so, so I would be responsible for the extra 100 proofs. BUT I can choose to tell them that I only want 600 and they will have to get it down to that many (but honestly, if the photographer tells you that there are 700 pictures that are great- who's going to let the photographer decide which 100 aren't as great as the others.)
I still don't like that they charge for more proofs...but I feel better knowing that I have the choice...even if I won't say no to more pictures.

How is it your fault if the photographer shoots over your contracted amount? I don't get why you'd have to pay...it's not like your keeping track...I would call back.
Are you getting a CD of proofs? and if you want more printed out from the CD it's that amount more?

I don't really remember what I'm getting and my contract doesn't say much- just the time, the enlargements, etc.
I think I'll call back tomorrow and ask about a few things.

Are your photographers shooting on film? If so, this is pretty common.

That sounds strange. I would call to clarify this with them. Normally there is an extra charge for extra film used and that amount is generally $36. Maybe she was just reading off a script and the extra charge doesn't apply to you.

That sounds weird. How are you supposed to know when he hits 600 pics? is it your job to divvy up the amount of photos at each point during the day? That's weird. Go right over that lady's head and speak to him directly.

Never heard of that!! I would def call back and fight that. All this time being on LIW I never heard any bride say they had a certain amount of proofs in there contract. I know I didn't. They told me a round about amount I might get. Oh that makes me mad they try to make $ on everything. Let us know how that goes. Good luck!!

Also keep in mind the number of proofs you get isn't necessarily equal to the number of pictures taken. The photographer might take 2,000 photos - You likely won't get 2,000 proofs!

Do they give you a CD with all the proofs on it? If so then you can print out the extra 100 pics yourself for a 1/4 of the price if that's the case.

I have never heard anything like it and it really is bad business for them to be so nit picky, esp when you pay so much for their services.

I'm not happy and I regret choosing this certain vendor. I have no doubt that my photos will be nice, but their business practices seem to be a little iffy.
BUT- it's too late to do anything about it at this point....they have me by the nuts (excuse the expression)

do you get to pick the 600 you want or they pick? if they pick thats not cool. what if u think a pic came out awesome and they dont? still pretty weird but at least you got to ask and find out more
