Is this ok? invite wording

Is this ok? invite wording

I am doing DIY pocketfolds but we are having the actual invite card printed. The place is having a big sale and I need to order by Feb 28. I'm nervous bc it's sooo early but I want to take advantage and I'll worry about printing the inserts later (we are going to do those ourselves.)

Is this all it needs to say?

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
request the honor of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Rebecca ______
to
Daniel _______
son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jones
Friday, the ninth of October
Two thousand and nine
at half past four o' clock in the afternoon
St. Isidore Roman Catholic Church
Riverhead, New York

woo that's exactly 12 lines which is all that will fit. My parents are paying for the wedding and it's a formal wedding. Is this ok? should it be Honor or Honour? is everything else spelled out correctly?

ETA: oooo also I know a lot of people put an earlier time on their invites to make sure ppl show up on time. Our ceremony is scheduled for 4:30. Should I put 4 or 4:15? or leave it?

I like half past instead of half after.

I would change after to past and try to include his paretns in there too.. like to FH names.. son of 'his parents'

I would put at least 30mins before so that way people are not walking in during the ceremony

I thought of this, but since they are 'petite invites' to fit on the pocketfold, they can only be 12 lines....

my parents are paying so I think this is ok....

i have to disagree here... for those that like to arrive like 15 mins before start time, that means they would be waiting around for 45 mins... i think thats an awful long time... i put 15 mins earlier on my invites... felt if people waited a half hour, it wasnt too much of a big deal

If it is only your family paying then only their names go on the invitation( According to etiquette, of course you can do whatever you want!)

I talked to my planner about this. My family is so late, but she felt it was rude to put in an earlier time for those that will be on time, or even early. So if people are late, oh well.

We are writing the actual time just because i have a personal pet peeve about waiting around for the bride, and if you make an earlier time on your invite i just feel like you are guaranteeing that your guests who show up on time are sitting around (JMO)

Our invite wording was exactly the same except we wrote

Me
and
FH
son of Mr and Mrs ________

My etiquette book says whoever's parents names are on top are assumed to be the payor's and i didnt want to offend fh's family. HTH

ITA!!! I put the real time on my invitations, when I was asked by the invitation place if I wanted to put an earlier time I said 'no, all that matters is that me and my fiance are on time, whoever is late is late'

You have to remember that you do have early people and it wont be fair to have them wait around for so much time.

HTH

I think the wording is perfect by the way.

Thanks girls!

Ok, so some ppl are still saying I should put FIL's names..... but that leaves the problem of the 12 line max.

The only thing I can do is take out the '622 Pulaski St.' Do i need to have the street address of the church or should I just put the town and state?

I don't think FIL's will care if they're names are on it.... I'll talk to FH and tell him to ask them lol

Re: Is this ok? invite wording

are you going to have direction cards to the church included with the invitation? If so, you probably don't need to write the address on the invitation since people will take the direction cards with them when they go.

If you delete the street address of the church (but keep in Riverhead, New York then you will have one more line for your FIL's names.

Also, I would spell out New York instead of NY.

I agree with PA56... I have the address on the invite and the direction cards, and I realized after it was said and done that it's doubled now...ah well. But you can def. take that one line out and then add the FPILs names...

Re: Is this ok? invite wording

Yes we will have one of the inserts as a 'Directions' card for the church, hotel and reception hall.

FIL's ARE paying for the RD and our precana....

also there won't be an extra line between the time and the church, which I see often.... i.e.

..............................
half past four o clock in the afternoon

st. isidore rc church
riverhead, new york

will that look bad? the whole thing will be one line after another.

Thank you so much I hate this invite stuff lol

Re: Is this ok? invite wording

Honestly, I was going back and forth with this as well, but I think that the invite is more about the whole situation...the parents of blah blah... lol. Not who is paying...ya know? I was stressing out big time so I just stuck with the partents of ...HAHA.

The etiquette is that whoever is paying goes first.. you can add FH parents names after ... but that is totally up to you

If you think your parents are going to be offended for doing this, you should talk to them... but its assumed that whoevers names are first are the people paying lol, esp if you write something like 'son of so and so'

This won't offend my parents for putting their names on it, will it? Since they are spending so much money since they are first it should be obvious, right?

FIL's ARE paying for the RD and our precana....

My parents paid for 90% of the wedding and DH and I paid for 10%. His parents didn't contribute but their names were on the invite. They raised him, paid for his education and love him. That's reason enough to have their names on it.

There are other ways to tell your guests that your parents are the hosts... when the DJ introduced my parents at the reception, he said 'now introducing the parents of the bride and your hosts for the evening, Jane and John Doe'

It's entirely up to you but I would write your fiance's parents name on the invite.
