Is this rude?

Is this rude?

If I tell my bridesmaids to wear their hair up. I cannot afford to pay for it, but I want everyone to look uniform. Also one of my BM is sorta hippyish and she has very long hair that she never cuts. I am scared that she will wera it down

You know I dont know but I am wondering the same thing cause of my girls is a hippie too - I think she knows better than to wear her hair down. It would look dumb with such a nice dress on. Can you just ask her 'How are you doing your hair'? Thats what I plan to do because even if she has it half up, I think it will look better.

It told mine how to wear their hair. No one took it the wrong way... they thanked me b.c they didn't know what to do!
I sent them all the pic and told them to get it done at a salon that they are comfortable with. If they didn't have one I offered my salon's #.

I would definitely get an idea of what they are thinking. I mentioned to my MOH that all the girls got their hair done the same for a wedding I was just in. She was so surprised and said that she thought that was rediculous and couldn't imagine telling someone how to wear their hair!!! Meanwhile I was thinking that I may have ideas about how I'd like her hair.

Its definitely NOT rude .. but its a tough subject to approach sometimes !

But I've been in countless weddings that I had to do what the bride requested .. even if I dind't want to. Its part of being a BM, after all! Most bride want their girls' hair to look 'Uniform'

Perhaps you could just say 'do you know how you want to do your hair for my wedding?' and if they are ambiguous just say 'I think everyone would look so pretty with their hair up, you won't have to fuss with it all day/night..etc. Then you can offer to put them in touch with a stylist, or have them do their own thing.

Good Luck!

Wow, well, personally, I could care less if someone asks me to wear my hair a certain way. I can't imagine NOT getting my hair done being in a BP, but someone else MIGHT be offended. Hard to tell. You probably know them well enough to really decide that. And my first inclination would be the fact that you even thought it might be an issue, so that might be an answer. It doesn't mean NOT to ask them Just be SUPER polite about it!

Re: Is this rude?

I personally think it's a little rude and would be annoyed if I was told how to wear my hair as if I was a little girl. The way I see it is my BMs did SO MUCH for me- buying the dress, the shower, the gifts, the attention, the emotional support- the least they can do is be comfrotable with how they look. Lets face it, we all knew what type of style the BMs had when we picked them- either you are accepting of your friends and how they are no matter what, or you aren't. It's like asking a friend who has a tattoo to be in your wedding, but then demand they cover it... you knew she had the tattoo, if it bothers you that much you should'nt have asked them to be a BM.

No I don't think it's rude. Just tell them that your prefer that they wear their hair up.

Not at all - I feel that it's all part of being in a wedding party. There are lots of books on being a bridesmaid that give advice on this - they should read them.

One of my BMs is from Upstate, and she asked me to provide them with a list of costs for various things, so that they could start saving. I thought that was a GREAT idea.

I personnally hate the way my hair looks up, so. if I was told to wear my hair a certain way, I would beg them not to make me do it!!!

I don't think it is. If I was asked to wear my hair a certain way, I would do it without question. I am not asking my BMs because they are all pretty in their own right and know how they want their hair. It doesn't make a difference to me if it is up or down so, I told them they could do what they want.

Re: Is this rude?

I think Im going to ask my girls to have their hair up for the style of the dress. But Im not choosing what hairstyle, because all my girls have different lengths and textures. As long as its up, I'll be happy. Which reminds me, be specific with your wording. I was in a wedding party a few years back and the bride asked us to get our hair done. I think her concern was meant for one particular bm who had badly permed long black hair. Since she wasnt specific, the girl got her hair done, but it wasnt up. She got a really ugly braid that reminded me of a horse's tail. So be specific!!

Well, I personally don't care that much, but I don't think it's rude to ask how are you wearing your hair. You're already dictating everthing else they're wearing.

One of my BMs, my FSIL, is an Orhtodox Jew, so she's either wearing a hat or a wig!!!!! I freaked out over the hat thing, but in the end I'm just letting it go. I hope she doesn't (I REALLY hope she doesn't) but if she does I'm just gonna let it go.

Re: Is this rude?

I think it just depends how you approach it.
Ask if they were planning on gettign ti doen, and then say you think it wouyd be nice if they wouold wear it up.
if they cab't afford to get it done, they can wear it in a simple bun that one of the othe girls could probably do for them, if they can't do it themselves.
( I used to take ballet - I can put my hair up with one hand & no mirror, but if you got a lotta hair , it's harder)

Re: Is this rude?

yes I do think its rude...sorry but some people may not be comforatble with thier hair up OR have the money to get an updo. If you were willing to pay for it then that is a different story but you are asking them to put out alot of $$$ with the dress, shoes, shower and other stuff, you cant expect them to do this also.

No not rude , I think it is okay and acceptable to tell them to put it up or down, and only out of line if you make them go to some pricey salon and tell them exactly how to wear it. Maybe suggest some things, but ultimately you have to let them be comfortable too. I think up is just so neat and clean, pretty so ask for it up!

nope...I dont think that is rude at all.
You shouldnt even have to pay for their hair.

I agree, I think its an honor to be in my friends weddings and that its part of the responsiblity you accept if you say you will do it, the dress, the hair, among other things, you know that this is part of it.
