Is this rude?

Is this rude?

I am registering for some china at bloomies. The ones I like are $140 for a 5 piece place setting, BUT they are always on sale for $89. I put them on about 2 weeks ago and they have gone on sale off sale and back on sale with in that time. Is it rude to have China on my registry that is $140? Im afraid people are going to think im nuts!

I only think its rude if that is the only price range you have on your registry. You never know if someone will buy it or not... so take a chance !

I dunno.... all I can say is that we did that too.... we registered at bloomies for $130 place settings, which when on sale, cost $100...... the only difference you and I may have is that my stuff is all open stock, so people can buy individual bowls, plates, and cups... For some odd reason, they didn't even OFFER the option to register for complete place settings (my pattern is rosenthal suomi white)

I will tell you that not too many people actually bought us china I don't know if it was becuase it was open stock, or if they thought it was too $$$. Iknow a couple of my friends who have more colorful styles than me, and my family, who have more traditional tastes, weren't entirely enchanted with my minimalistic modern china.

I just bought the remaining approx 8 place settings myself at the 7/4 sale

I think it is fine. Our is a little cheaper than that, but it keeps going on and off sale for the past year. Once it goes on sale like 7 people bought place settings.

Im hopeing people only buy it if it goes on sale. I think $140 is a lot for plates! granted it is wedgewood, but still. But I figure with the rate the sales are going, people can go get price adjustments.

I actually think it's good to have a few pricier items on your registry so that people can go in together on them for a shower gift, etc. With china that can be tricky but I've seen it done where like 5 people buy 3 settings, etc. If you like it and there's a good mix of other priced items on there, you're good.

Not at all. I buy place settings quite frequently for showers.

Fortunoff does a really cool thing with their fine china registry. On occassion they offer a free soup bowl with the purchase of a place setting.
If you register during this offering, but it is not available at the time someone purchases the place setting, you can get the soup bowls for free when you complete your set.

You could register for a car and nobody has to buy it for you. My point is that a registry is nothing more than a wish list. If people want to buy things for you, they will. If they don't they won't. I registered for a $500 Lladro and guess what, I didnt get it. I moved on

Just so you know, MACY's and Fortunoff will honor each other's sales. I registered for the same flatware, china and crystal at both places as a matter of convenience for my guests. Fortunoff does not exist in states down south. However, one of my cousins in TX wanted to buy me two place settings and I noticed that the setting was on sale, with a bowl, at Fortunoff. I told her to call MACYs and mention Fortunoff's sale. They checked out the sale to see if it was legit and gave her the same price.

I dont think it is ......a registery just shows people what you are 'hoping' to recieve ...they do not have to buy that fo ryou ....I tried to balance ours out as much as possible !!!

No there is nothing rude about it. I would register for some less expensive items too but $140 for china is fine.

i dont think it is rude at all ..
it's what you like..
that is the whole point of a registry. you put things on there that you like . people buy things off of it that they can afford and what they want to buy you .

They do go on sale. And IMO $140 isn't that terrible of a price. Hopefully all it will take is one family member to see it on sale and they will let other people know.

My china is about the same price -- no worries!

No it's fine, hopefully people will get them on sale, or maybe you will get a few gift cards and you can get them afterwards.

I used my registry as a time for me to include items I would never purchase for myself, like the expensive iron, sheets, china, crystal, etc. People expect to see expensive items on your registry -- remember, this isn't your birthday, it's your WEDDING! Also, what usually happens is people chip in and buy one or two items together. Definitely don't fret.
