My FML thinks this is odd... then again, she thinks everything I do is odd...
I don't want a bo-k toss or garter toss... anniversary dances are okay, but I had an idea...
I asked my FMIL and my mom what their first dance songs were and the dates of their weddings. At some point in the wedding the DJ will say something like 'Ladies and Gentlemen will the parent's of the groom please step out on the floor - on such and such date 1962 Tom and Lily danced their first dance as a married couple to I Love You by someone' So then they would dance a few seconds into it, photographer would snap some shots and the DJ would invite the rest of the guests onto the floor. Then maybe after dinner the same would be done for my parent's first dance song. I thought it was really cute...
It takes about as much time as the corney and out dated tosses - sorry, but at my age my friend's don't want to be reminded or made a spectacle of b/c they are single. As someone who is getting married for the first time at almost 34 years old, I always hated the stupid tosses... it's like - yes, I'm always a BM never a Bride... why don't you just stick me in the middle of a dance floor and throw something at me that maybe I'll catch so I can finally get married. You may think I'm crazy, but my single friends I know will be VERY grateful. I don't know any single girls who don't wish that they weren't hitched. Not saying they don't exist, they just don't exist in my circle. My older single friends are freaking out as is about the possibility they may never marry or have kids... lets just point that out at the wedding for 'tradition' sake.
We did something like this for my sister but we surprised her. She was married for 17 years at that point. I could not remember her wedding song so I got my niece to steal her video and I found it on there, obviously. My sister would have vetoed the idea if she knew ahead of time but she really liked it. She didn't notice her video was missing until I told her that I had it.

Re: Is this so wierd?
Nope, I don't think you're crazy or weird. We're not doing the garter or bouquet toss. I have few single friends at this point anyway, I'm the last to get married. We're also not doing a lot of the special dances. My FMiL died of breast cancer on Thanksgiving, so no mother-son dance, , and my dad is NOT going to want to do a father-daughter dance. And I don't blame him. First dance of us as a couple and that's it.
Remember, it's YOUR wedding. You don't have to do anything. You might have family who will be dissapointed, or it might not happen.
Good luck!

Re: Is this so wierd?
my friend did that at her wedding. they dedicated their parents wedding songs to both parents at separate times during the night. It was nice.

I think that is a really sweet idea. I don't care for the bo-k toss either. I might just have a nosegay made and give it so my grandmother who was married to my grandfather for almost 67 years.
It ***** that you have to hear FMiL comments but the day of everyone is going to be remarking on how thoughtful you and FH were to do such a thing.

I think that's fine. I'm doing the BO-K toss b/c I am the first of all my friends to get married, and imost of my girlfriends are in their 20's and single. Both of my SILs didnt' do it b/c of that exact same reason. They said it made their 30-something friends feel really uncomfortable. I think the dance idea is a really cute alternative.

I always hated the BoK toss and garter toss, I like the idea of an anniversary dance though.

I love love love your idea as a replacement for the bo-k/garter toss. We didn't do the toss thing or the anniversary dance, and I don't think anyone noticed.
