My girlfriend tells me that her Mom told her it is now ok to wear white to a wedding. Now, I know that it is no longer considered unacceptable to wear black, but white I had not heard, nor am I sure I believe this. what have you heard?

That's what I'm thinking. I just don't see how they think it's ok.

Whether acceptable or not, unfortunately people will wear what they want to wear.

I agree-NO white. The only time I wore something remotely close was a cream dress with black print on top, and the bride was wearing a red mandarin dress, so I was completely safe!

I think a white dress is unacceptable.
Someone wore a white top with black bottom to my wedding and I thought that was fine.

I think it really depends on what the person is wearing -a long white dress with a train and veil (LOL) would bother me while a jacket or pants wouldn't.
I really feel that everyone knows who the bride is and there really isn't anything a guest can do or wear to take that away.....

It's still totally inappropriate and down right rude....

My Stepmother is planning on wearing an ivory dress to my wedding ....the same dress she wore to her daugthers wedding last year.....I am not worried though.. she is the one who will look stupid in our wedding pictures that she will display in her living room right next to her daugthers wedding pictures...

I think your frined's mom is out of whack. I don't know where she heard or read that, but I still think it's unacceptable. I mean to tell the truth, no one can take away from the bride's beauty on her wedding day, but it's been such a convention for so long. I'd never wear white to a wedding, why do anything that could possibly, in any way, take away from the bride's day. This is one trend I don't want to be on the cutting edge of.

I've never heard of that and I too would be ticked off if someone wore white to mine.

I just went to a wedding last Saturday and someone wore white. It was ridiculous! Everyone kept making comments, I thought it was in such bad taste. She had just gotten married herself in March, she should have known better.

From an older generation standpoint it is not inappropriate to where white to a wedding. I think it's the style of the dress that makes it inappropriate. My mother wore a white silk pansuit to a wedding about 10 years ago and she didn't look out of place. On the flip side a girl wore a white sequined gown to my MOHs wedding and it certainly came off as tacky

Unless it is mandated by the bride and groom that they want an all white wedding- like Leah Remini and her husband had, then NEVER wear white!!!
