My FMIL is starting to annoy me a bit...seems like she constantly needs to put her two cents in about my wedding planning even when I don't ask for it, not sure how to respond to it when my family is paying for 95% of the wedding. For example last week she is telling me what color bridesmaid dresses she thinks would look good; and now that I picked my dresses she's telling me what flower colors she thinks would match, and how they need to match the centerpieces. How do I respond to this? I haven't figured out what flowers I want yet, and don't need someone breathing down my back about every detail, especially if they aren't paying for it. I would rather just pick something out on my own and then tell her this is what I picked. Well, thanks for reading and letting me vent, I feel better already.

Re: Is this typical of your FMIL?
Thanks everyone for the advise and response. I know she just wants to be involved and I know my fiance loves his mom, so I'm just going to remain civil and tell her I'll consider her suggestion and move foward with my wedding plans. At the end of all this wedding planning, regardless of what flowers are chosen, what's really important is that I'm marrying the person I love.

To get around this, I have basically stopped telling her anything- or I show her AFTER I've purchased!
this is what I've learned to do.

ukk that's kinda annoying but I understnad my FSIL is just like that. I just say 'thanks for your input, i'll definitely consider that'. I don't say yes or no on the spot. Then afterwards I 'd just be like, oh it was a tough choice but i went with option A. It's your wedding, but you don't want to be bridzilla and say 'back off it's my wedding' even though you are thinking it !! LOL

I am in the same boat!!! Both of my FH's parents love to put in their opinions and ideas when they are not even chipping in a dime for our wedding. It drove me INSANE at first but I've just learned to deal with it and I pretty much agree with whatever they say then do what I want in the end. It's not worth the hassle of debating or arguing with them.

It is extremely typical for a MIL to be annoying.
The best thing to do is create boundaries, make your own decisions and stick to them, and remain civil.
And always check the Caller ID before picking up the phone.
Lol this!!!! My FMIL loves to tell me every time I see her that we should elope and save $$. She isnt putting a dime towards the wedding!! It really gets to me sometimes but I just take a deep breathe and move on...that's all u can do!

my fmil is sorta the same way. she actually told me to get married in a Lutheran church vs a catholic church because its cheaper. i say thanks but no thanks. i listen and then pretty much push whatever she says out of my mind because i know she is just trying to help. just keep your head up! i'm sure shes coming from a good place and just wants to be involved!
