Island Hopping Day Tripping Hawaii - Repost from 2010

Hello ladies,

Anyone hear of or know about island hopping for day trips in Hawaii??? FH and I want to stay in Maui and possibly Kauai or Oahu. We're thinking of island hopping to make life easier.

I am trying to figure out if its worth it. You can score flights for $44, so I am considering it... Any help, suggestions or advice is welcome...and much appreciated.

Personally, I'd make the trip from Maui to Kauai for more than just a day. There's a lot to see. Why don't you just visit multiple islands? We're doing 2 days on the Big Island, 6 on Maui and 3 on Kauai.

We did a day trip to Lanai from Maui on our last trip over. It was easy - we had made arrangements to rent a jeep on Lanai before we left. Hopped on the ferry, went 4 wheeling, snorkeling, ate lunch at the 4 seasons, left the jeep at the ferry terminal and hopped back on for the return trip to Maui.

This time around, we have the TA pricing us a day trip from Maui to the Big Island. We're up in the air about it. FH has never been to volcano national park, and we'd like to go, but might save it for our next trip over.....

It's a great way to see one specific thing on and island but if there's more than one thing to see, I think you'd be better off spending a couple of days.......

ETA: This time around we're doing 4 days Oahu, 8 days Kauai and 11 days Maui.

If you're going for less than 2 weeks I wouldn't recommend doing more than 2 islands or it may feel like you're moving around too much.

I am just going to a couple of Islands and staying there. We are also going to try to do San Fransisco on the way back to break up the flight home.

FH and I def are doing 6 days in Maui... just couldn't decide how many days on Kaui or O'ahu. Thinking 3 days each island and maybe one of the days on Maui day tripping to Lanai or Big Island to see the Volcano National Park. I'm getting ideas on what we want to do and see from you ladies... which is great. I just want to make the most of it. Hope for a return trip, but ya never know.
