Islip Town Hall -- updated

Has anyone gone there to apply for their Marriage license? Are they very strict? FH is having a hard time finding his birth certificate, and I think it's in French (he's Canadian) so they may not accept it anyway. I'm hoping that between his alien card, license, and passport they will let us apply.

--FH just called and said he found his birth certificate. But in the mean time I made lots of phone calls and learned that Hempstead Town Hall will let you apply with two forms of current photo ID.

I got my marriage license there---you MUST have a birth certificate

Honestly--just about every single town hall in long island requires the birth certificate. if his certificate is french--he needs to get a notarized translation

i've heard that the ones in queens and NYC are a little more lenient and accept an alien card or driver's license only. i would go there

I believe at Brookhaven town hall they might accept that. I know they will take a baptism certificate in lieu of a birth certificate. You can check their website.

it's towards the bottom of the page...

Thanks ladies. Unfortunately his baptismal certificate is in the same envelope as his birth certificate

We're sending in the forms for a new birth certificate but I don't think we'll get it in time.
