My sister got her MOH dress in Jersey (that's where she lives) and she just went today for her first fitting. B*rtons told me to get some fabric from her dress and they would wrap the bottom of her bouquet with it. It's a really pretty cobalt color chiffon. Well, when my sister asked the lady today, she snapped at her with 'we can't do that, tell them to just make something out of satin'
So, then my sister proceeded to ask her if they could just save the fabric they take off (it's extremely long right now) and the woman said that she will have to write it down on her card, and hopefully they save it.
My question is....isn't this my sisters dress now that SHE paid for it?? They've never gotten this request before??
I apologize in advance for all of the venting I'll be doing for the next 3 weeks

Re: Isn't this a normal request?
I'm relying on 2 of my short BMs for the bouquet fabric haha they haven't taken it to where they will be getting the dresses altered yet, but I don't see why they would have a problem giving you the fabric back... in fact, my mom already went for her fitting (don't know the name of the place) and they just gave it to her without her asking for it.
strange - what are they going to do? hoard it and make a new dress from it?

Re: Isn't this a normal request?
I'm having the extra fabric on my wedding dress wrapped around the boks, the seamstress litterally cut the bottom off while I was wearing it and handed it to me.....they have to give it to her

Thanks - I'm not alone in my thinking lol. It's amazing how one person can put a damper on things...
Hopefully they will 'remember' to give it to her. ...and if not, the satin is fine..it's just the point

My florist told me the same and I never thought the girls would have a problem. I'm pretty sure it's a standard request. Good luck!

It is a totally normal request! My BM had alot cut off her dress and they gave her all they cut off. They did the same for my dress as well.

Re: Isn't this a normal request?
Definitely a normal request. If they write it on her tag, just politely mention every time you go in for a fitting... the seamstress is saving our fabric right? I did this with my dress because I wanted all of the extra appliques they took off the bodice and it worked.
I would even walk in there with a Ziploc bag for them, so they can't throw out anymore excuses.

Re: Isn't this a normal request?
Its not an odd request. When my sister and friend went for their fitting the woman actually cut the bottom while they were wearing the dress! It startled me at first haha but they let us keep all the extra fabric in case we need it.
It truely belongs to your sister she paid for the entire dress! so its not an odd request at all.

Re: Isn't this a normal request?
Not an odd request at all to ask for the fabric off of your own dress! alterations doesnt need the excess off a dress and its not theirs to keep imo. I hope they dont give me a hard time when I ask for the fabric off the bottom of my dress!!!
but your florist should provide the material/satin included in what you're paying for. even if you only have an inch size piece of fabric swatch they should match it and use their own stuff.
