Hey guys. So I hired one company to do photo/video at my wedding next year. I booked the DJ through a different company, who will be providing, among other things, a Zap photographer with plasma TVs. Now I did not even think of this issue until I came across it on another message board, but a lot of photography companies do not allow other professional photographers to shoot the same event. According to my agreement with my photographer, they are the exclusive photographer/videographer, and will allow other photographers at their discretion. Of course I will call them to confirm, but I wanted to see if this was an issue for anyone else? Thanks!

You have to ask if that includes the Zap shots but your photographer probably should have mentioned that when you signed the contract, mine pointed it out.. but for me I don't care about or want the zap shots

my photographer would not allow zap shots that was in my DJ contract. I got no credit from the DJ since it was not his fault and nothing from the photographer. I would have loved the zap photos but the contract was already signed with the photograher and he would not budge on the subject.

We booked our photographer first, and he told us and it was in the contract before we signed that he does not allow zap photos. He said many photographers didnt mind and used to allow it, but now the dj's bring in more professional cameras and it takes away from your main photographer.

Did you ever hear back from your photographer? I looked in my contract and it says the same as yours about being the 'exclusive photographer.' I'm not sure if that includes zap pics. He never brought it up and I honestly didn't think to ask. If we can't use them I hope my dj company can maybe substitute the money for something else??? I dunno. Now I've gotta call and figure this all out. So annoying!! But thanks for bringing it to my attention

I know this is not going to be a problem for me (even though I didn't think of this until now!) because the DJ and photographer have worked together at events before, including my FSIL's wedding. They did the same thing there.

I'm away on vacation at the moment, didn't call yet (mostly out of fear that the answer might ruin the rest of my vacation ) but will call as soon as I return..will keep you posted when I do! I never even considered the Zap photographer 'professional'..at least from the Zap shots I've seen from some other weddings they just look like random candids that could have been taken by any guest..so I thought hey the more pics the better..especially since the main photographer is hired for a certain number of hours and won't be there the last couple of hours of the reception, so Zap guy can cover the end. Hope it works out for you too..good luck!

My contract also says that my photographer is the 'exclusive photographer' for the event but they said that zap shots wouldn't be an issue because it is so common. And my photographer said something that made me really happy that I think we should hear more often 'It is your event, we work for you - you can hire whoever you want and do whatever you wish'

Wow, great post! I don't think anyone's realized this detail. Just met with our possible DJ yest, so good timing. Thanks!
If your photographer says no, maybe you can say this- Zap photography can be done with just 1 or 2 cameramen and they just float around casually with the crowd. So they shouldn't interfere any more than your guests would. Also, zap photos are generally taken early and posted live on the screens you have, so they're not going to be 'running around' the whole night like normal photographers.

Agreed!!! I understand each company has their own policy and that they may not want other photographers interfering, but you are paying these vendors so much money, they should at least try to work with you a bit!

At first I was debating if I should post about this at all! Thinking it was just common knowledge everyone knew except me lol. So many little details I wouldn't have thought twice about. Fortunately my photographer is fine with the Zap photographer. Hope all you guys who have already booked are as lucky or are at least able to work something else out!
