IT could have been me

IT could have been me

I could have been a contender, but instead I am washed up at the ripe old age of 25

MTV is putting the final touches on the latest edition of its 'Road Rules' vs. 'Real World' challenge, this time called 'Fresh Meat,' which debuts on May 29.

The show, which over the years has become one of the most watched on the network, usually pits the alumni from MTV's two signature shows against each other.

Each season it has a different name, such as 'The Inferno' or 'The Gauntlet.' But with 'Road Rules' off the air for almost two years, producers decided to cast viewers this time.

'Quite honestly, one of the reasons we did 'Fresh Meat' was because we haven't had a 'Road Rules' on in a few years,' executive producer Jon Murray told The Post last night. He said his studio has already pitched a new version of the popular reality show to MTV, but is still waiting to hear back.

'So we thought, what if we did a challenge where people from the MTV audience would actually get a chance to show up and participate in one of these challenges with these people that they've watched on 'Real World' or 'Road Rules, ' he says.

Twelve new contestants were found through open casting calls last year and then shipped to Australia, where this season's show was filmed.

Once they arrived on the set, about 20 miles north of Sydney, each 'Freshie' was paired up with one of 12 former cast members from 'Road Rules' and 'The Real World.' Then the 24 competitors started to fight their way through various athletic and mental challenges that lasted about five weeks.

Along the way, some got nearly naked, while others shacked up - adding to the drama.

'The MTV audience just loves to watch these 'Real World' and 'Road Rules' alums show up at some tropical place where it's so hot they don't wear a lot of clothes, have these challenges and experience all this drama that always seems to happen,' says Murray.

The winning couple took home a $250,000 prize.

On a Side Note: Can't wait for this to air - even if I will be filled with jealousy each time I watch!

Seriously whenever FH and I are watching the Gauntlet/Inferno, we just keep saying 'SO cool - I want to try that'. Meanwhile, there are people on there like Beth crying their eyes out and refusing to try. They don't know how good they have it!

ETA: Imagine getting matched up with Beth!

Well, then, I am ancient at 35. I am not even in MTV's target audience anymore and am probably spend more time watching mtv that their target age group
When we were in the city and saw the MTV store, FH told me that I am probably too old to even go in the store and they might check my ID and tell me to get lost.

On a funnier note though, when I walked into FH's house on sunday, he was watching My Super Sweet Sixteen, nearly peed my pants b/c before I came along, he wasnt an MTV watcher
