It really puts life into perspective...

The school that I work in is in a low income area yesterday I was helping some of the students with their writing and the topic was 'Three Wishes' and they were all writing about how they wanted to go to Disney World to meet Mickey.

I just feel very blessed that I am able to go there...I told them that I was going in July and they looked at me like I was crazy.

oh wow! how cute! it really does put things into perspecitive.... i used to work at a school for all special needs kids- autistic, downs syndrome, cerebal palsy- all kinds of stuff...and its just amazing the every day things we take for granted..... almost makes you feel guilty spending sooo much on a wedding, doesn't it??

That's so sad...maybe you should buy them some Mickey stickers to cheer them up!

My Daughter is 3 1/2 and she's been there 4x's. She doesn't know yet just how lucky she is.

I'm so thankful that we have the opportunity to take her to the places we never got to go to as kids. My heart breaks when I hear things like this. The glow on a child's face when seeing Mickey for the first time is Priceless!!

I told them I would send them postcards and that I would tell Mickey that they said hello!

Aww..

I understand that completely, because if anyone ahd asked me that when i was a kid, my answer would have been the same. We could never afford to go. But Fh finally took me and made my dream come true!

If you want to do something sweet I would hire one of those character companies to come in for an hour. Its really cheap and they would remember it forever.

Maybe for x-mas or something. But I dont know if the school allows that kinda thing.

Im sorry but why would you tell them that you're going?

ETA: Not that it was a HORRIBLE thing to do, its just that I dont know...unnecessary...I think it would make them feel even worst that they couldn't go. JMHO.

I agree how much we take for granted. My friend nephew is really sick ( out of nowhere) and I was talking about it this morning about how I am so grateful that my niece is happy and healthy-

and my mom works with children with down syndrome and that are autistic-all from low income areas and the things my mom tells me makes your heart break. Like it is not bad enough that these kids have disabilities -

Kids are so sensitive to so many things. The fact that it was one of their wishes goes to show that even in one of the biggest Cities of the USA, there are kids still wishing and hoping for so many things that us adults take for granted. Many of us can learn from them. I know I learn from my sons all the time. Keeps me focused and grounded.

I'm sorry, but when I read that, I thought the same thing. although you probably meant no harm by it and just wanted to share, and maybe bond, to those kids it probably didn't come out that way.
