Re: It started snowing in Manhattan
I'm on Madison b/w 59th and 60th Street. I can see the snow out my window. It's not that heavy yet though.
Angela: They're saying anywhere from 6-12 now. But who knows! I really hope we don't get 18 inches

NY1.COM:
The city is preparing for yet another winter blast, with light snow Tuesday turning steadier overnight for significant accumulation.
There should be no major problems for the Tuesday evening rush, but the snow will get heavier after sunset, mixing with sleet or freezing rain at times. The latest forecast for the five boroughs calls for five inches of accumulation and up to eight inches in some areas by the early morning.
The snow will continue until about noon Wednesday, with little or no additional accumulation.
It will remain cold, with a high of 28 on Tuesday and 30 on Wednesday. It will be sunny Thursday, and the mercury could finally creep above the freezing point.
If the forecast proves right, New York City will surpass its yearly average of 28 inches of snow – with almost two months of winter left to go.
Hundreds of plows and salt spreaders are ready to hit city streets when the snow reaches two inches.
For the latest updates on this winter storm, tune to NY1 for “Weather on the Ones.”

1010WINS.COM: The metro region is under a winter storm warning today. 1010 WINS AccuWeather is predicting a total of 5 to 10 inches of snow will fall across the area beginning late this afternoon or this evening. Some northern suburbs, eastern Long Island and Connecticut could get up to 15 inches.
Weary New Yorkers bracing themselves for another round of winter weather Tuesday, as the third phase of a complex storm system was expected to drop a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain creating treacherous travel conditions.
Forecasters warn that northern areas could anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of snow before the system finally leaves early Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the entire metropolitan region -- and many school districts had planned early dismissals and canceled classes for Tuesday. ...

Not snowing in Suffolk county. I just watched the news and they said Long Island will get about 6-12 inches and some areas in Suffolk will get 12-16 inches. One channel said they see another storm developing on Friday.

Re: It started snowing in Manhattan
I just got this from WABC.com
As our coastal low strengthens and develops through the day the precipitation starts Before the snow gets here we could see some sleet and freezing rain. The start times for snow: 6:00pm - 8:00pm for much of the area, 10:00 p.m. Out toward Montauk.
Pressures are now crashing along the Viriginia and Carolina coast with secondary low formation. I expect precipitaiton to start breaking out down through the Delmarva around Noon time and then move up the coast this afternoon. It should start as a mix of sleet, snow, freezing rain and then by 9pm everybody is in all snow. It is going to snow very hard for about 6-7 hours at about 2 inches per shour so thus our forecast of 12'. The high liquid to solid ratio and the expoding upward motion will do it. The heavier precipitation will be over by 7am with loight snows and flurries until lunch time. Then the winds will align and go northwest and downsloping will clear skies with lots of blowing and drifting snow tomorrow night.
The snow stops Wednesday afternoon, but by then we're under anywhere from seven to eighteen inches of snow depending where you are. Then we're in for a very windy day as the storm moves out.
Snow Totals:
There should be about 10 inches to a foot of snow in New York City. There could be about 12-18 inches of snow up the Hudson River Valley and over to Connecticut and Long Island. There will be great deal of snow North and West of the city.
I can't believe it might snow 2 inches per hour. That's nuts!! And it's so funny how every station website has different totals.
Bedda: I totally know what you mean. Last year, it happened to me while dress shopping I was so pissed! You're probably going to have to cancel the BM fittings tonight, but I think the weather will be fine by friday night and sunday

Re: It started snowing in Manhattan
Yeah I called my friend up yesterday (the bride) cuz she was supposed to drive us there and she didnt even have a clue that we were getting snow...LOL but she suggested to play it by ear and see how bad the snow is by the evening. I mean even if the commute to LI is fine for the evening rush it will be a nightmare by the time we get home but we'll see what happens. I personally think we should just cancel tonight.
