Italian brides...is this REALLY a tradition?

Italian brides...is this REALLY a tradition?

I'm curious to know if this is a real tradition, or my mother disguising her ability to be controling. She SWEARS UP DOWN LEFT AND RIGHT that it's an Italian tradition that the invitation be HAND delivered to the grandmother of the bride, WITH postage on it. I have to say, I do think she's crazy, so please let me know if this is real!

Oh, I totally plan on doing it to shut my mother up. She's a piece of work, that mother of mine!

And, just to add, between my family and DH's family, we have ALL areas of Italy covered. And, none of us ever heard of the hand delivery of invites.

Ironically, my Grandmother's house was the RSVP location. So, she called me up one day and joked to say, 'Yes, I received an RSVP today. It's from me. I am coming to your wedding.'

But, my Grandma is awesome!

I've never heard of that either...I have heard that in Europe in general, they hand deliver it to all of their guests....but I dont think that holds true here....

I'm Jewish--my mom and grandma have a few 'made up' traditions. I think they were just family traditions but I was always told it was a Jewish thing--until I found out that none of my other Jewish friends did the same things!!!

That was probably the tradition in the small town she was from, back in the day. But, that doesn't old true here, or there anymore. My brother got married in Sicily about 15 years ago--I don't remember him doing that.
