I was watching TLC's wedding story and the couple is Italian. They are having a Serenade. They said its a big block party and its traditional in an Italian wedding for the Groom to serenade the Bride before the official wedding. Just wondering if any of you ladies are doing this?

This is true there supposed to go the night before. I saw this in italy this past spring. The grom goes to the brides house. But does not go inside and he start to sing to her. Or in this case they hired a dj/band and had them singing and everyon eon the block and all the family was there and eventually the bride comes down stairs and dances with her groom.

Re: Italian tradition
This is true for Italian weddings that take place in Italy. FH & I are Italian and have been to 2 weddings in Sicily where there is a party the day before the wedding with basically the entire town. What is also nice is that the bride actually walks to the church with her family for the ceremony. In Italy the town is built around the church and it's almost always walking distance from the locals homes. It is a very nice tradition but you won't see it here much with Italian-Americans.

Yes thats what we did with Fh's cousin. And the family goes to the brides house for the Futrure motherinlaw to give her the bo-k and then they cut the ribbions when the bride leaves the house.

I love the way the bridal procession looks walking to the church. My aunts lined all the streets leading up to the church with white bows and fresh flowers. Another thing in my small town is that all the guests bring the wedding gifts to the brides house the week of the wedding. This way you don't have to worry the day of the wedding about safe guarding your money bag. And yes the groom serenaded the bride the night before and all his family came and shot off fireworks.

that is so nice- i have never heard of that before. . .
i love when the bride walks to the church i think that looks so beautiful
one italian tradition that i will be doing is my mother and mother in law are going to be making my bed the night before the wedding with these gorgeous lace sheets that my mom bought for me when i was in the second grade - we are spending our first night in a hotel but our second night we will sleep on our 'wedding sheets' lol
also in my family's town - the bride and groom 'sneak out' before the reception is completely over so they dont have to say goodbye to everyone and waste another hour just saying goodbye
and also - the B&G's friends play pranks on the couple on their wedding night - they arent allowed to go to sleep that night so they do things like TP the room or set up little cups of water on the bed so they have to empty them all out before they can get into bed - and the friends come by every hour or so to make sure they are still awake - in the morning the B&G have to make breakfast for whoever was there for the night - i dont know if this is a common italian thing but i know that it is common in my town in Sicily. . .

Re: Italian tradition
This is a tradition in Italy and I think specifically in Southern Italy and Sicily. My cousin did this for his bride the night before their wedding a few years ago and I taped the whole thing, because I couldn't wait to show everyone at home. He hired a band that played all night and the bride's family bought a TON of food and pastries and everyone from the neighborhood came over to eat and dance the night away.

I think that's one tradition I'm going to skip. You'd understand if you've heard FH try to sing!
