Italy...

FH & I are getting married Nov 24, 2006. We are planning on going to Italy for our HM but were not planning on going until May because of the weather (we're thinking it would be to cold over there at that time of the year)...has anyone been to Italy at the end of November beginning of December...is it that cold that we would not be able to do things anything outside????

I know that once the wedding is over we're going to wish that we were leaving for our HM then instead of having to wait until May...we have our hearts set on Italy...

hey there, that's the only time of the year we go b/c we like to go A LOT and it's so much more affordable. the weather is pretty similar to the weather here...Rome is maybe a little warmer than NYC, with Milan and Turin maybe equal but colder in the mountains. the further south you go, the warmer it is. I spent this past Christmas in Sicily and during the day I was wearing short sleeved shirts...it was 60+ degrees. at night you need a jacket, but it's really not that bad.

if weather is your only concern, you should be fine. nothing some sweaters, gloves, and a nice coat couldn't help you with...IMO, you are better off visiting the ruins in the fall than in the middle of summer, when you have to battle VERY hot temps and all the other tourists.

(and with all the money you'll save on hotel and airfare, you can buy yourself a nice little italian number with ZERO guilt)

oh yeah, I am going with my fh THIS coming december for 4 days and I can't wait. 12/8 to 12/12. The christmas decorations will be up and it will be beautiful.

go with Italy. it will really be worth your while.

I'm going to Italy in June right after my wedding. Is the heat completely unbearable? Most hotels have air conditioning, right?

ETA: going to Rome, Venice, and Florence

I lived in Rome two years ago and it was chilly during November and Decmber, but you could totally do stuff outside. It is the same as late October in NYC.
You should go, it is awesome.

I'm thinking June is not so bad, though I've never been there in June...July and August is another story...I really try to avoid Europe in the summer.

that sounds so elitist of me! LOL

DH and I were there for 16 days from June 21st to July 6th and let me tell you it was hot. It did not help that they were in a heat wave while we were there but we didn't let it bring us down. We got up early and went out, came back on really hot days and took a nap to go back out later in the afternoon. All our hotels were air conditioned and there was plenty of gelato to help keep us cool . Some of your museums are not though. I can't wait to return but this time we will do it in the off season to save money.

What was the avg temp? Because I live in MD right now, so I can deal with hot ...just not 95 every day.

Hey girls,
I'm looking to go to Rome and down the Amalfi coast. Do any of you know of a good travel agent?
Thanks!

That's EXACTLY where we are headed to!! A friend of mine runs tours thru Dowling College and this was this year's trip.

For us average was 95 and up, but they mentioned on the news while we were there that they were in a major heat wave (not the normal weather). It was definitely hot and humid but linen pants and tanks worked perfectly...

I went to those three cities last June. It's hot. Very hot. Not in the ruin your vacation way, just lots of $$ spent on bottled water and stops in air conditioned shops and museums.

Re: Italy...

Who did you all use for travel agents? Is there anyone who is the best or specializes in Europe trips?

TIA!
