So FH and I have been discussing possible honeymoon spots.
We've been to several caribbean islands and on two cruises and really want to go to Europe, esp. Italy.
However I'm afraid of flying, I fly when i need to, but avoid it if i can, but for a trip to Italy (my dream vacation) I'll deal with my fear.
What parts of Italy are the best to visit? When are the best months to go? Any hotel recommendations?
Thanks.

Re: Italy???
We are actually planning a 'mini-moon' to Italy as we are getting married in Ireland.
We are going to go in February- the off season.
We hav enot booked anyhting yet but we found europeandestinations.com to be a really helpful site, it gives you all the info for hotels, and even helps you book rail tickets should you need them!
good luck!!!

Well since you are getting married end of May I think that is a great time to go! Don't worry about flying. The new Alitalia flights all have their own television w/ games, music, movies. It really makes the flight go by fast.
I personally love the south b/c of the beaches. FM if you have any questions, I go to Italy almost every year so am familiar w/ many places there.

We also are looking into Italy - I hear that the Amalfi Coast is beautiful - my cousin lived in italy for a year and says this is the place for honeymooners.... Then Florence. I was thinking 4-5 days on the coast ( Capri or Sorrento) and then Florence for 4-5 days. My other cousin also went there for her honeymoon and stayed in Sorrento (I think) and said it was the best trip of her life and she has been EVERYWHERE Let me know how it turns out I know florence has a few Westin's - check it out

Re: Italy???
I'm totally biased bc my family and FH is from Italy (he's actually there right now )
Anyway...IT IS SOOOO WORTH THE TRIP!!! My FAVORITE spot in all of Italy is Capri..it's an island off the coast of Naples. Unless you have a month I'm a firm believer Italy needs to be done in 2 trips. You need to decide if you want to visit the north or south (either way you can start in Rome). If you go the northern route you can start in Rome and then travel to Florence (Tuscany), Venice, Milan and the Italian Lakes (you might even bump into George Clooney).
If you go south you can start in Rome and then head towards Sorrento, drive the Amalfi Coast, spend some time in Capri and then head all the way down to Calabria (where I'm from) and take a ferry to Sicily. Sicily has some of the most incredible beaches in the world. Taormina and Cefalu are a MUST!!
Prepare to gain at least 10 lbs from the pizza, fresh breads and gelati!!!
I actually work for a European tour operator (we are escorted so I wouldn't recommend my company for an HM). FM me if you want any more info.

Venice was, by far, my favorite part of Italy. I wasn't that impressed with Rome, but it's one of those places that you have to see if you're there. If you want some great shopping then I would recommend going to Florence too. I've been to Italy 3 times now and I could go back a dozen more.

Re: Italy???
I studied abroad in Italy and loved it! Definitely check out places on the Amalfi coast - I recommend Sorrento and Positano. Quaint little beach towns are charming and beautiful...they also have numerous couples dinner-dancing clubs, and they are a ton of fun!
Capri is gorgeous as well, but it is a bit crowded. If you are looking for a bit more seclusion and don't mind the occassional smell of sulfur, you should check out Ischia - Capri's sister island. There are a ton of spas and natural springs on Ischia (hence the sulfur smell), and many little beaches and hotels. Of course, if you don't mind the touristy crowd, definitely just stay in Capri.
I wouldn't miss Florence or Rome either, they are both impressive in their own ways. Milan is not as fun as either of those cities, unless you have some secret awesome fashion connections...most people I know, including myself, that have gone there find it a little boring, and wildy expensive for no particualr reason.

Re: Italy???
If you go to Italy you will not regret it, especially for a trip as special as your honeymoon. I understand that you're not excited about flying but trust me once u get off the plane you'll realize it was all worth it. I've been trying to convince FH to make the trip to Italy too for our honeymoon but it looks liek we'll probably be going for our one year anniversary
My city suggestions for you are: The Amalfi coast - you must must must go to the Amalfi Coast for a few days. 2 cities not to miss there are Caprii and Positano - I think it's the closest you could get to paradise on earth. Next on the list would be Venice - I've never been there myself but from what I've heard it's an amazing city and very romantic so it would be perfect for honeymooners. If you're in Italy you shouldn't miss Rome either - if u really want to do the touristy things it can be done in 2 days so you don't have to spend a lot of time there. and last but not least Florence - when I was there I felt like I was in a medieval fairytale. You'll feel like you've been transported back in time - the country side is amazing...definitely do some wine tastings at the vineyards while you're there. HTH but if you need more info feel free to FM
