Anyone planning their honeymoon to Italy? We have been looking into this option. We want to stay under $5000. Wondering if anyone was able to pull this off? We want to be able to relax and enjoy one another so we aren't into doing major tours or following a strict schedule. We would just like to explore on our own. Any ideas would be helpful.

Re: Italy
I think you can do it...if you get some train info, you can take day trips from like Florence to Venice.. I have done it before..If you want..FM me your ideas on places and I can try to help. Also, be prepared for different hotels that might not be what you are used to in terms of like the Hyatt, Marriott etc...good luck..it's great over there!

Yes I looked into the cruise but it was too expensive for us. Almost, $10,000 without flights. So unfortunately, thats a little out of our budget but that is something I would love to do in the future.

We are planning our honeymoon in Italy. We are flying out during the high season- our airline tickets were $1650 for both but you should be able to get a better price in May. Check out booking.com for hotels they seem to have the best prices. The length of the trip will have a huge impact on the overall cost of the trip.

Re: Italy
Def look into using Kayak and Mobissimo for airlines. Sometimes it is cheaper to fly into Venice then Rome.
Also Italy has tons of low cost airlines that fly between the cities so def look into that rather than the EuroStar.
Hotels def use priceline.com and use biddingfortravel.com to see what people have won.
if you are getting married in May you def can find some good deals in airfare and hotel bc it is not yet high season August/July
I would also recomend not doing a multi city flight bc that is what kills you in airfare
I go to Italy every summer and lived there as well So def FM me any questions

We are doing a 12 day cruise from Venice and coming back to Barcelona on Princess cruises. FM me if you would like more details. We got a good price (under 5k)! I wasn't aware that the ports charge... what do you mean by this?

Re: Italy
Word of advice, my future in-laws were born and raised in Italy.... when you look at hotels, book NAMED hotels, like the marriot or hyatt or whatever, don't go with the 'cheaper' hotels because they are disgusting! my ex went to Rome and Milan a few years ago (well I guess 7 or 8 years ago) and I remember he and his friend booked a cheap hotel, and walked out after being shown to their 'room' they had to share a bathroom with other people, they had to pay to use the phone (even with a phone card) he just told me horror stories... and now my FH and his family back him up.
The castles/bed&breakfasts are good for a day or two...
I personally have not been there, but FH's two older brothers both did their honeymoon there, but I don't know details.

We are looking into Italy. I want to fly there and then take a cruise around the coast so we get to see a bunch of places. Haven't looked into the costs yet so I hope its not too much.

Re: Italy
We are going to Italy for our one year wedding anniversary, and I may be going this october for my cousins wedding... I really dont know much about the hotels in Italy and pricing, bc my other cousin's husband own's a high end hotel chain in Southern italy....You should be able to get airfare for around 1400-1600 per person though, look around and maybe see a travel agent to get some better info.

Re: Italy
i have never been there but my sister went last year in May. i don't know how much it costs because it was a gift & my uncle paid for it. my uncle has been there numerous times & so has FMIL. i do know what the other poster said about 'cheap' hotels. its a bad idea. so stick with the names you know.

I am so happy to hear that so many of you are interested in Italy for your honeymoon. I am really hoping I can make this dream a reality. We quickly looked into this option and were quickly scared away by the price tag. I am really hoping we can find something more reasonable...from your reviews it can be done!
P.S. the port fees I heard from my Grandfather. He said that some ports charge $100 bucks to be let off. Anyone hear of this??

Re: Italy
I think the port fees depends on the cruise ship. I heard Costa are really good in Europe. Also I know people who work they way down from Venice, Croatia, and Greece as a cheaper options. In May you can get really great deals.
You can def pay 5k for all this esp, with the economy being lousy people arent traveling at all. My Fh and I paid last year each 1,200 per plane ticket to Trieste, this year the same exact ticket is $800 with taxes.
Also before you book any hotel def do your research(refers to the cheap hotel post)I always use priceline bc it is always hotels that are name brands like Marriott or Le Meridan.Jolly Hotel in Italy is the same thing as Holiday Inn.

We are going to Italy for ten days. We are going to Venice, Florence, Rome, and the Almalfi Coast and unfortunately we spent more than 5,000. I am sure there is a way possibly you can do close.
