Italy HM

Okay so I have an itinerary for almost every day that we're going to be in Italy (including some days to just relax) but - in researching online I can't find anything interesting to plan for Venice. We're only staying 2 nights bc I know there's not a ton to do there but for anyone that has been - anything you recommend? We're staying in San Marco Sq.

We are actually not going to Venice on our hm, but I've been multiple times for school, work, vacation. I would definitely say you should visit the Palazzo Grassi and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection - both museums - both for the artwork and the architecture. Of course you'll visit San Marco, but another church kind of 'off the beaten path' of the rest of the tourists is one of my faves - Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, its amazing. There you'll find Titian, Donatello, and Bellini. There are some nice cafes on that piazza as well. You have to visit Harry's Bar, which is Venice's Cipriani. I'll keep thinking . . . what types of things do you like to do on vacation?

Thanks So much! That's all great info. We like th ebest of both worlds on vacation. That is, we like to see the touristy sites but we also like to settle in and do as the locals do. I'm afraid to spend too much time in churches and museums in Venice though bc we have a lot of that planned for Florence and Rome. That's why I'm thinking in Venice we might want to do more of the local stuff and leave touring for the rest of the trip. Also it's the first stop when we get there so we may still be recouping from the wedding/flight and need to ease in. I'd think shopping, eating and sites near San Marco (we probably won't go out of that area) are best!

You can go to Murano and watch them blow glass!

I agree go to the Guggenheim, i loved it there.

There is a jewish quarter too, which was really incredible. They had a memorial at the gate where the nazi's came in during the holocaust.

I lived in florence for a semester so if you need any dinner reccos or shopping reccos, let me know.
