I am very stressed out, and I need your advice. FH doesnt care where we go, as long as it is someplace nice. This is how I feel. I have always wanted to go to Italy. I sort of feel like, if I dont go now, I might not ever get to go (I hate that feeling). At the same time, when I picture Italy, I picture us running around a lot and doing a lot of traveling...which honestly sounds very stressful and tiring,I dont know what to expect. we were thinking 3 nights Rome 3 nights Florence and 2 nights Venice.
I went to Cancun last year w. my family and I LOVED IT. If we decided to go to Cancun, we would want to stay at the Cancun Palace (LOVE IT). I feel like it would be relaxing and there are so many things to do there. Xcaret, chichenitza, and the nighlife is pretty good as well. But I hear a lot of stuff from people telling me that Cancun is not a place for a honeymoon.
Anyway, for those of you that have been to Italy on your honeymoons , can you please tell me what to expect? i need to book this HM before the end of the month and I really have no clue.
Or maybe other suggestions?

Re: Italy Honeymoon...Advice
Have you considered something like a week in Italy and then a few days on an island on a beach somewhere before coming back home?
I'm not sure how long youre planning on going away but alot of people do 2 destinations.
btw....I've been to cancun twice and my aunt went there for her honeymoon....they stayed at the Ritz Carlton and said they were treated like royalty. Whoever said Cancun isnt for honeymoons is wrong. I think it's for singles, couples, families etc...theres so much to do there.
Good Luck with your decision.

Re: Italy Honeymoon...Advice
FH and I went to Italy last summer. We spent a few days in Rome, then two days in Venice, a few days in Florence and then back to Rome. It was a wonderful trip. We particularly enjoyed Florence. It was so beautiful and the museums were increcible. And the food there was out of this world!
Rome was very hectic, though. If I had it to do over, I would have spent less time there. We're not 'city people' and Rome is very much a big city. So we didn't enjoy Rome as much as the other cities. That being said, I'm glad that I've been there and seen the ruins, the Sistine Chapel, etc.
For a honeymoon, though, maybe spend some time sightseeing and then spend a block of time on the Amalfi coast. I've heard that there are some really nice resorts there.

I totally see where you are coming from about all the sight seeing in Italy. I have been there for vacation and I think it depends on what part you visit. Rome and Venice you will def want to go sightseeing, but if you are looking for more of a relaxing vacation try someplace south- like Calabria or Sicily- there are BEAUTIFUL beaches there and you have the option of going sight seeing or relaxing. Also, you might want to look into the Amalfi Coast or Tuscany. If you need other info FM me. Good LUCK!

FH and I are going to Tuscany for our HM- We have decided to spend a few days on Elba island off the coast of Tuscany at the beginning of our trip to relax and lay on the beach:

The coast of Tuscany is where many Italians go for vacation!
After we spend a few days on the beach I think we will be ready for some sightseeing!!

We had the same issue and decided that cruising around the Mediterranean would be the best of both worlds - a little sightseeing and a lot of relaxation and pampering with minimal running around with our luggage and travelling back and forth. If you are interested, there are tons of cruises that go to the major sites in Italy and the plus is that you pay in Dollars for most of the trip instead of Euros.

We are going to Italy and wanted to do a little of the sightseeing and a little of lying around on a beach so we are going to Rome and the Amalfi Coast (staying in Positano). I recommend that for the best of both worlds!

we are doing Italy... 3 nights Rome, 4 nights Siena, 5 nights Sorrento. I think Sorrento will be the relaxing part. It is at the end of our trip so I know we are going to need it. I can't wait!

Re: Italy Honeymoon...Advice
We've been to Italy for vacation last summer and we did 3 days in Rome, 3 days in Florence, 2 days in Venice and 4 days in Capri.
About running around, it is ultimately up to you although if you are going to Italy it would be a shame not to do sightseeing. We did a lot of that and it seemed stressful at the time. We also went to capri for 4 days and that was so relaxing and absolutely amazing!
Now, looking back, I don't remember it as stressful, I remember it as the best vacation I've ever been on. It was romantic, fun, exciting and although stressful at times, definitely relaxing.
You can't go wrong with Italy!! The people, the restaurants and much much more!
TRUST ME you won't regret it!
FM me if you need any help/info.

FH and I plan on going to Italy and we are thinking to go to Rome for about four nights with a day trip to Florence/Venice. Then going to Sorrento/Almafi coast for the last 6 nights with day trips to Capri and Positano. I heard this ending part of the trip would be relaxing.

we went to Italy for our honeymoon and didn't regret it all. Every year we always went away to a carribean island and didn't want to do that for our honeymoon. We went to Venice 3 nights, Florence 2 nights, Rome 3 nights and the amalfi coast for 4 nights. We only regretted not doing 3 nights in Florence because I didn't get to see as much as we liked to. We did do alot of sightseeign but weren't tired or stressed at all. It was the best honeymoon ever. If you need any more info let me know :)

ITA with this. i want to go to Europe also but i dont want to be on a strict schedule. i feel that the cruise is the best of both worlds. you can sightsee a bit and then relax on the ship afterwards. food is included so you dont have to worry about the weak dollar. ive been to italy twice but FH has never been. i think its a great romantic way to get a taste of europe. and FH said maybe for our first anniversary we will go back and do the real tourist thing.

I went to europe for my honeymoon and let me say that you dont have to run around like a maniac. DH and I dont like being on tight schedules, and always like doing our own thing. First was spain we went to and although there is LOTS to see we didnt drive ourselves crazy with having to see everything there is to see. WE didnt write out schedules and saying we have to go here today and to do this and that and put too much on our plate. It was a very relaxing honeymoon. We would pick one area to check out the next day and at no particular time. We would wake up and take our time, go eat somewhere first. We would walk by choice and take our time, stopping along the way if we saw something else. Then when we'd get to our destination, we took our time again and once we wanted to head back we did, didnt feel the need that omg we have to still do alot more. We were in barcelona a week so we had more than enough time to visit certain areas, and we did 1 a day. We would get back to the hotel with plenty of time to relax after and get ready to go out for dinner. It was seriously the best vacation, so beautiful and relaxing. Even Dh said it was the best most relaxing vacation he has ever been on and still wishes we were there.
Then we went to monaco and same thing, we didnt feel OMG we have to go to every museum and site. We did things our way. We took nice long walks along the water and saw things in our own way. Monaco is alot smaller though and it is the french riviera so it more relaxing and not a big city
I would say do italy but dont do 3 locations in such a short period of time, dont stay 3 days one place, 3 days another place and 2 days again. How about going to a place like capri or the amalfi coast in italy. Its alot more laid back and relaxed

Re: Italy Honeymoon...Advice
We went to Italy...stayed in Rome 3 nights, Sorrento (on the Amalfi Coast) 3 nights, Florence 4 nights and Venice 3 nights. It was a bit of running around but it was the trip of a lifetime. We can always go to an island for relatively cheap, so we figured that was our big splurge.
There are many things you can do to make it romantic and relaxing such as: 1) While in Florence, take a day trip through the Tuscan countryside to visit a winery. 2) Also in Tuscany visit Siena - it has a beautiful cathedral and it's a pictureque medieval looking small town. 3) The Amalfi Coast is breathtaking - Sorrento was very laid back, but the people like to come out and party at night. There are a lot of British tourists there and British pubs. Also visit Amalfi, Ravello & Positano, you can hit all in a one day tour. 4) We ended our trip in Venice...there's not much to do there, which made it a relaxing end to our trip. Any other advice, FM me!

Re: Italy Honeymoon...Advice
DH and I loved our honeymoon to Italy and actually met quite a few people at nearby hotels or restaurants that were honeymooning too. Even this morning I asked him if he would meet me at the airport so we could go back! I absolutely loved everything about Italy. We spent Tuesday-Saturday in Rome and did a one day excursion to Florence. Saturday-Tuesday in Venice and Tuesday-Saturday in Positano. Nothing was rushed because we didn't book tours and we just traveled the towns on our own. We WALKED pretty much all of Rome and loved every minute of it. We were able to see St. Peter's Basilica, The Sistine Chapel, Pantheon, Spanish Steps (our hotel was nearby), and the Fontana di Trevi. The best part is that we really didn't use tour guides or maps and when we were lost we ended up finding the best food and piazzas to walk around and people watch. Venice was also amazing and in my opinion you definitely don't need more than two days to visit. Our hotel was RIGHT next to the Rialto and so close to St. Mark's Square which made everything convenient and fun. I also loved the Belini's!!! In two days we were also able to take a private tour of the Murano factory, which had some amazing pieces !! Positano was another amazing town and we WALKED up to the top and the view was breathtaking!! We took a boat to Capri one day and did some fun shopping. We also visited Almafi, but very briefly because it rained and I ended up getting sick from the boat ride!! Just thinking about it gets me dizzy!! All in all, Italy was amazing!!! I am definitely already planning my next trip back!!!
Hope this helps!!

reading this reminded me so much of exactly what we did...we didnt use a map when going out, no tours and did do everything on our own. We also got lost, but its something that we look at now and histerically laugh and was an experience of its own. Even just walking was so beautiful and romantic. Walk around and seeing all the beautiful sites, walking hand in hand and just relaxed and enjoying our time. Even at night we would take a little stroll just to do it, not go far from our hotel but it was so beautiful to roam the streets in europe at night, everything was gorgeous. We also would always stop at outside cafes since they're everywhere. People in europe stop at cafes for everything, even if they want to have some water or some soda, they dont walk down the streets with a beverage in their hand, not even coffee. We would find these great little places along the way, some real great finds.

Re: Italy Honeymoon...Advice
i just got back from italy sunday night. your fh sounds a lot like mine - he didn't care where we went and i planned the whole trip. i love italy and knew i wanted him to see it - he has never left the country. he is not a beach person and there was no way i wanted to go to the caribbean when we can do that anytime... i agree with you - you might never have a chance to go to italy if you don't go on your honeymoon.
for us, I also wanted to see the greek islands but didn't want to plan the jumping around, so the first week of our honeymoon we did a mediterranean cruise that sailed from Venice and stopped at a bunch of the greek islands, dubrovnik croatia - amazing!!!! , and back to venice. the second week we did a night in venice (1 day in venice is plenty), 2 nights in florence, and 3 nights in Rome. i did these three cities because he had never been; if i had my choice i would have gone to cinque terre or portofino.
just so you know, never did we feel it was too hectic. like mrsdelrio and espo above - we walked all over the place at our leisure and every afternoon we'd come back and nap and relax and then go out for dinner.
a trip i did 8 years ago was venice, florence and the amalfi coast. I highly recommend that but if you are going in march you might not get the beachy aspect of it; it may not be warm enough. it's still absolutely beautiful though.
