Italy Honeymoon...Advice

Original post by MrsLarrea2B

I am very stressed out, and I need your advice. FH doesnt care where we go, as long as it is someplace nice. This is how I feel. I have always wanted to go to Italy. I sort of feel like, if I dont go now, I might not ever get to go (I hate that feeling). At the same time, when I picture Italy, I picture us running around a lot and doing a lot of traveling...which honestly sounds very stressful and tiring,I dont know what to expect. we were thinking 3 nights Rome 3 nights Florence and 2 nights Venice.

I went to Cancun last year w. my family and I LOVED IT. If we decided to go to Cancun, we would want to stay at the Cancun Palace (LOVE IT). I feel like it would be relaxing and there are so many things to do there. Xcaret, chichenitza, and the nighlife is pretty good as well.
But I hear a lot of stuff from people telling me that Cancun is not a place for a honeymoon.

Anyway, for those of you that have been to Italy on your honeymoons , can you please tell me what to expect? i need to book this HM before the end of the month and I really have no clue.

Or maybe other suggestions?

i just got back from italy sunday night. your fh sounds a lot like mine - he didn't care where we went and i planned the whole trip. i love italy and knew i wanted him to see it - he has never left the country. he is not a beach person and there was no way i wanted to go to the caribbean when we can do that anytime... i agree with you - you might never have a chance to go to italy if you don't go on your honeymoon.

for us, I also wanted to see the greek islands but didn't want to plan the jumping around, so the first week of our honeymoon we did a mediterranean cruise that sailed from Venice and stopped at a bunch of the greek islands, dubrovnik croatia - amazing!!!! , and back to venice. the second week we did a night in venice (1 day in venice is plenty), 2 nights in florence, and 3 nights in Rome. i did these three cities because he had never been; if i had my choice i would have gone to cinque terre or portofino.

just so you know, never did we feel it was too hectic. like mrsdelrio and espo above - we walked all over the place at our leisure and every afternoon we'd come back and nap and relax and then go out for dinner.

a trip i did 8 years ago was venice, florence and the amalfi coast. I highly recommend that but if you are going in march you might not get the beachy aspect of it; it may not be warm enough. it's still absolutely beautiful though.

HTH. FM if you want more info.

you have to do a review of your HM, cant wait to hear all about it and curious to see how your DH felt about it. Like yours, mine had never been to europe and didnt really have to much of an interest to go but again like yours he hates the beach so no caribbean for us, plus like you said, its a once in a lifetime experience so do it while you can. I wanna know now how your DH feels about europe. I was nervous about mine liking it, and he liked it even more than i thought, he keeps saying he wishes he was still there and said he wants to move to europe so its funny to hear that now

i know how much thought you put into your HM so cant wait to hear about it. Sounds like it was amazing.

well i really wanted him to love it and the closest indicator i got of how he felt was that at the beginning of the trip, before we got to italy, i told him how since i was seeing all the same cities i had seen because i really wanted him to see them that next time we went back we were going to do the countryside, the riviera, and/or the amalfi coast and sicily; he just rolled his eyes and said we are never coming back, and I said oh yes we are.... so during the trip when we were in florence some of my second cousins came from bologna to take us around and took us all over florence and then out that night; it was really cool because one of them i hadn't seen since i was 8 and he was 20 and had come to NY and stayed for 3 months so we had gotten really close... he teared up when he saw me.... well DH had fun even though i had to translate everything, then my cousin was planning my next trip and telling me that if we gave him notice he would take us all over the countryside to the places that aren't so touristy but are gorgeous.... so i get all excited (i'm totally going, with or without DH ) and translate to him and he's like, well according to you we're coming back someday so that shouldn't be a problem.

so that was a MAJOR accomplishment for me! And he didn't complain once the whole trip even though the only english channel was BBC news for two weeks!! he is such a tv freak but he was like well we didn't come here to watch tv. another major accomplishment!

i know, i'm really lazy and have just been catching up - hoping to get some pics up this weekend. I missed yours and saw from maria's post that you posted HM pics! I missed them!
