My rooms are booked in Positano and Rome.
Looking into trains to Cinque Terre from Rome and hotels in the area

I'm not going to Italy for my honeymoon but I've been there numerous times to visit family and I just wanted to tell u that u made 2 wonderful choices with Cinque Terre and Positano. I went to Cinque Terre for 1 day about 3 years ago and it was really beautiful and I stayed at Positano for 3 days and I have to say that I've never in my life seen a place that is more breathtaking. If anyone ever has any questions on Italy or Sicily feel free to FM and maybe i can help

Thanks!! We just booked Hotel Steno (or something like that )
for CT!!!

Re: ITALY-The official thread!!

Can anyone recommend a hotel near the Leonardo Airport - we need a room for the last night - close to the airport.
We don't care that it is not 'in Rome' - just looking for a nice inexpensive place to stay before we get on our flight home

We definitely want to go to Rome - now I am just trying to find a place to go for a few days to relax before hand. Thinking about Tuscany.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: ITALY-The official thread!!

I suggest Capri. such a pretty place.

i have been to Rome, Venice and Milan. Milan was nice, but i wouldnt go back there. they also have a major mosquito problem in the summer, well they did when i was there. me and my friend were backpacking europe for 6 weeks, 6 years ago and we were sitting in a landromat doing laundry. she got bit 25 times!!! the next few days we were there, she got bit alot. this was in July. i got bit as well, but not so much.

venice is very pretty. i loved it there.

rome is nice, too. last time i was there i remember encountering mosquitos as well, not as bad as milan. it was july and so hot too!

also watch out for getting pickpocketed. there are women with babies and they look innocent, but they steal. FHs wallet almost got stolen by one, had he not put his hand in his pocket and felt another hand there . he then was like hey, and saw the woman with the baby run away onto another train car (we were on a sunway platform) with another women. watch out! i have seen and heard about it a few times, especially in italy.

have a good time. i did the exact same 3 cities when i went to italy. florence is gorgeous, check out the boboli gardens.
rome is really nice too, the gelato is amazing. venice is ok, you can see the whole place in 2 days.

have fun!

DH and I did 16 days in Italy this past June/July for our HM... the most perfect and magical trip we have ever taken. Here is the list of hotels we stayed in during our HM.

Rome... Albergo del Senato (room with balcony overlooking Pantheon)

Sorrento.. Hotel Minerva (saved with the book - room with balcony overlooking Bay of Naples)

Assisi.. Hotel San Francesco (room with view of St. Francis and Umbra country side)

Siena.. Palazzo Ravizza (Frescoed room with partial view of Tuscany country side - higher rooms have full view of country side)

Florence... Guelfo Bianco

Venice... Hotel Ala (on a canal)

I agree with the rick steves book-its the best travel guide for europe

For anyone researching Italy (or even other destinations in Europe) I highly recommend getting the Rick Steve's books. For Italy he has one on Italy in general and then several other ones that cover specific regions. Some hotels give you a percentage off you rates when you mention his book (I didn't use a TA and booked everything myself thru the hotels). He reviews the hotels, restraints and sights which makes it handy when traveling around. Several restraints we went to also gave discounts when they saw our books. Definitely worth checking out!

well its up to you. i think you'll be fine wearing it, just be careful. the kids kinda bump into you and try to distract you and then steal your wallet. A ring i think should be fine.

just be aware of your surroundings.

here you go!!

and it really does happen-so just be aware of your surroundings. Rome is SO beatiful, and there is crime really anywhere in the world. its perfectly safe so long as you know whats going on.
