Re: ITALY-The official thread!!

Hi,

I am very interested in honeymooning in Italy, mainly, Amalfi Coast, Capri etc.

Anyone have any info or reviews?
Thanks!

I have been to Capri and it was absolutely beautiful. I was staying in Sorrento, which I would also highly recommend and we took a boat over. You can visit the Blue Grotto and Anacapri. It was very dressy at night though.

gosh this thread reminds me that I have been avoiding booking our Italy trip, I really need to get on it ASAP. It's all too overwhelming for me.

We decided to wait until September to go, it's a bit less expensive than August.

I'm going to Italy this August/September to see FH's family. We are thinking of hitting Sardinia this time for a few days as well - anyone know how to get there by boat (can you get a boat in Napoli or is it only in Rome)? Any suggestions for what we should see? Hotels? Restaurants? Thanks!

I booked a private tour w/ ABC - we will have a private driver who will take us to our destinations - and on little excursions.

would you mind divulging your itinerary? any details you can offer would be greatly appreciated, I didn't even think of that as an option.

I did a tour with Trafalgar a few years ago. The itinerary was really good, as well as the overall price, but the hotels were always a little far from the city center making it difficult to go out on your own.

Re: ITALY-The official thread!!

My Itinerary...

Fly into Naples...

A private driver takes down the Almafi Coast to Positano.
4 nights at Le Agavi...dinner in Sorrento one night (w/ a private driver taking us there)

On our way to Rome, via a driver, we stop at Pompeii for a 1/2 day.

3 nights in Rome at the Royal Splendide. Also included is a lunch on their famous rooftop restaurant.

Our trip ends here***** but we extended ($50 to change our flight) and are taking a train from Rome to Cinque Terre and are staying in Monterossa and staying at Hotel Victor.

Then we are taking a train back to Rome - staying over another night (forgot the name of the hotel, but it has a rooftop pool) and then fly home the next day.

I would recommend Cinque Terre. It's these villages built into the cliffs along the coast, it's quite beautiful!

Laurie, whilst in Italy I usually use hotels recommened by Rick Steves or good old Best Westerns.

there is a BW in Venice right off of the Piazza San Marco which was great for us. can't remember the Florence hotel (it's in Rick Steve's book) and I'll see if dh has the info on the Rome hotels.

I am JEALOUS!

I got my Rick Steve here now (was at work before), and I will try and find the one you are talking about in Venice.

It's just hard since we are going relatively soon - 9/24-10/05.

I still have a FM you sent me with info way back when and you mentioned the BW in it! I am trying those too.

thanks again! as always - you rock.
