HI! I am so jealous that you are going to Italy!

Positiano - The view is enough of a reason to go, but the food is delicious too! We didn't even go off of a menu the owners just kept bringing us plates of food
La Tagliata

Rome - La Buca Di Ripetta

Edited to say that I never went to the other areas so don't have any suggestions

Here are my travel tips for Italy:

Def make a reservation online for anything touristy you want to see, the lines at the Vatican and the Colosseum in Rome and the Accademia in Florence are insane!!

Bring a pashmina/scarf everywhere you go in as a shoulder wrap so you don't have to worry about sleeveless shirts/dresses in most places.

Bring a water bottle to fill up at the fountains all over Italy - the water is clean, good and everyone does it!!

I can't remember where we ate, but everywhere we went the food was amazing! Def get some pizza for lunch and have gellato at least once a day!

Have fun!!!

If you are traveling by train, be very very aware of your surroundings and t he people around you. Hold on to your belongings.

We had read many stories on trip advisor last year before our visit. We were prepared. I know we are from NY and very savie but let me tell you it was a little frightening. Their are gypsy's hanging around in Rome and Florence in the train stations.

Enjoy!

ITA with these

also, wear comfortable shoes - im talking sneakers with socks. you'll be walking a TON on uneven terrain.

there is a great gelato place right outside of st. peter's - behind it. stop there

also, if you're in florence for a while and have some extra time, head over to cinque terre - it's like the italian riveria and is absolutely gorgeous!

oh yeah, and the gypsy kids - be careful they try to steal your bags/wallets by being cute with their accordians

don't forget on the trains when you buy tickets you have to get them 'franked' by a franking machine. otherwise, they could kick you off the train

Florence...eat at Vini e Vecchi Sapori. It is amazing. You must make reservations...it is tiny. It is just off the Piazza della Signoria. We ate there twice and should have gone more!

Gusta Pizza. It is close to the Pitti Palace.

Gelateria La Carraia

If you are staying for 3 days, I would recommend a Firenze card. It let's you skip the lines at every museum and for 50€, you can get in to a bunch of museums. It just doesn't include the Churches.

If you don't have the time, reserve a timed ticket to the Uffizzi and l'Accademia.

One of my favorite things to do in Florence is to walk up to the Piazza Michelangelo and look down on the town. There is also a really neat church up there...San Miniato al Monte.

Definitely get a cheap pashmina and keep it in your bag for church entry if you are wearing a tank top or sleeveless dress.

Rome.....gelato at Gelateria Frigidarium. Very very good. A few blocks of Piazza Navona.

Dinner....this place is good and cheap. It is called Piccolo Buco. It is near the Trevi Fountain. You should be able to just walk in here.

Cappuccino and granite...go to Taza D'Oro and bring your granite out to the Piazza della Rotunda and soak in the Pantheon

Watch the gypsies. I noticed it was better, though, than the last time I visited.

Take a tour of the colosseum. Make sure it includes the top level and lower level. Only special tours are allowed in these sections. It was totally worth it. We were the only people in these areas. A normal tour or a normal ticket will not get you in here. We used tickItaly. The price was reasonable and it also included a tour of the Forum. It was 3 hours for like 30€ ish

Definitely get tickets ahead of time for the Vatican Museums.

Re: ITALY trip recommendations!!

We just returned from 2 weeks in Italy June 24, so let me know if you have any other questions!

Tripsdvisor really gives good information, too. Especially for restaurants

It depends

It was on the FirenzeCard, so we just walked right in

The line didn't look that long, though
