as u all know my cat has been sick these past few months. well the vet said he believes Boots has cancer and we had to make a decision whether to do surgeries, try all these meds and tests, and hes already at least almost 17 (could be as old as 19- we found him 16 years ago). The vet said if we decided against this, and to put him to sleep, he wouldnt try to talk me out of it, becuz it may be best for him (since we all believe Boots is in pain). ive been fighting this for weeks cuz i didnt wanna feel like i was giving up on him, but after seeing him cry every night, without being able to do anythig to comfort him for months, and his attitude and demeanor changing everyday,i had to do what i thought was best for him, so i said goodbye to him this morning, and we put my baby to sleep. I am absolutely devastated, but know it was for the best.

I'm so sorry to hear this But you ended the suffering - just remember that. You gave Boots a wonderful loving life that he would have never gotten anywhere else

It is really hard to lose a pet but I think you did what was best for him.

Thanks for all the kinds words ladies.

No im not gtting another cat, it woul be too hard for me to do this again. i cant handle this pain well, the pain it causes me to lose my baby basically , wish i could but its too hard for me. Maybe years from now, but not anytime soon. im just so sad now.

It is a real sad thing .... and just know he is in a better place now ..... it is hard .... I am sorry !!!!!!!!!

So sorry, I know it must be hard. Just take comfort in knowing he isn't suffering anymore and that you gave him a great home with lots of love for all those years.

You did do the best thing for the little guy! It is such a great thing to be able to end their pain and not let them suffer.

It is such a hard thing saying good bye to your little guys because they are just pure love. My thoughts are with you!!!!

When you lose a pet it's like you lose a family member and i can't stand it when people ::cough::my ex::cough:: don't understand that.

In the end it's for the best and ur cat is no longer in pain. Remember him as the happy/playful cat that i'm sure he was.

I'm so sorry Elyse! It's a terrible thing to go thru at anytime, let alone 5 days before you're wedding. You did the right thing, you don't want him to suffer. I feel like a lot of times we do everything we can to keep our pets with us for selfish reasons and most of the time they are suffering all along, know that you gave him a good life and that he'll always be with you. It may be a good thing that the wedding is so close, you'll have so much going on it will keep your mind off of the sadness, then after that you'll go on your honeymoon and hopefully by the time you get back you'll be a little bit more at ease with the situation. You did the right thing!

ughhh I know the pain you are feeling, I have been there. I am soo sorry to hear this. It was such poor timing. I feel like they are always with us in spirit.

I absolutely love my cats and DH loves his cat...so I understand how devastated you feel. I am so sorry...know that you did the right thing for Boots...he is no longer in pain and is at peace now

I understand the pain you are experiencing all to well. I'm sorry you had to make such a difficult decision 5 days before your wedding. In your heart I'm sure you know you did the right thing. You gave your cat a wonderful home and many years of happiness. In return, you will hold those memories for a lifetime and maybe one day, will be able to create a home for another animal who really needs it. I know it hurts beyond belief but it would have been worse to see your cat suffer and have to worry him and how he;s doing on your wedding day and on your honeymoon. Your cat lived a full life and died in a gentle way. It was his time. I wish you nothing but the best and believe me, I know exactly how you feel, it really *****.

thanks for all of your caring thoughts

I tried to keep my mind off him most of the day today, did as much wedding stuff as possible, its difficult yes. all sorts of random little things reminded me of him, i would cry non-stop, but as FH told me over and over, he knows im strong, and though this is very hard right now it will ease up as time goes on.

i think tonight will be the hardest night i have ever had to sleep. I have not slept without my cat by my side or my head since i got him ( for at least the beginning of the night lately since he has changed due to the sickness). everyone offered to stay the night with me (fh, fam, friends etc...) but i need to be alone. I know its going to be tough.

you ladies are truly a wonderful support system. and it means a lot to hear all of your caring thoughts and words of wisdom.
