Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
I said yesterday too. It is the season for love, peace and togetherness, yet everyone is rude. People would rather knock you over instead of saying excuse me. I think people get into the hussle and bussle of the holiday instead of the real meaning of it.

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
I don't think this guy was deliberately trying to be mean, he's probably (and understadably) frustrated b/c his call had been transferred around your company w/o having his needs or concerns addressed to his satisfaction. I can relate to his behavior b/c I don't like getting that treatment when I call my service provider either!I think you handled the situation fine...it sounds like you got him to calm down a bit. My motto is 'kill 'em with kindness.'
Personally though, I wouldn't have said anything about 'working with a skeleton crew b/c it is Christmas Eve.' When you are in a service business, the way you handle your customers is very important, and your service (regardless of how short-staffed you are) should be seamless and invisible to the customer. Just my opinion...
Have a happy holiday, and don't let this one customer get to you!

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
I used to work with American Express and my boss told me to always be honest with the customer. Sometimes they dont want to hear things, but at least you are being honest with them and they may have a little bit more of an understanding or compassion. For example saying we have a short group here maybe this guy can understand why his needs arent being met immediatly and why he is being bounced around, when normally things would be very flawless.I think the worst thing I saw was this morning when I was walking to my office. This homeless guy went up to a stock brocker and asked him if he had any spare change, and the guy ignored him and just kept smoking his cigarette. The homeless guy went up to him and said can i ask you something, do you have any spare change. And the stock brocker just started telling the homeless man off.
I felt so horrible. I never give the homeless any money but its christmas eve so i gave the guy 5 bucks. Its not a lot, but it may be a warm meal of some sort for the guy.
I agree its Christmas eve, have some compassion. Its not always about you. I always get very mushy around the holidays

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
Rachel, I was the same way last week. Money is really tight, we didnt even put up a tree, my mom gave us this christmas tree plant i have sitting on the table, we didnt even do any big shopping, and we're just dragging and waiting for the holiday to come and go. I got offered a job and he got offered the TSA job so that cheered us up a little. But besides that, i just want 2002 to be over.

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
2002 was incredibly disruptive for me. I moved, changed jobs, got engaged, gained weight, and had some health problems....basically my world turned on its head and I have had a very tough time adjusting to all the changes in my life. I am very set in my ways and to have so much change all at once (literally in the span of 2 months) was rather traumatic for me. FH does not understand this and says that even though things change, we have to adapt. I realize this is true, and have every intention of moving ahead into a beautiful 2003 with him and our wedding, but I'm still sad and overwhelmed sometimes. Does anyone else understand what I'm talking about?

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
Rachel, are you sure we are not the same person or related in some way..My 2002 has been a huge shake up. The house my mother grew up in, and I lived in my entire life my uncle decided he didnt want us there anymore and evicted us. Its a mess of a story. It was my great grandmothers house, when she passed away 3 yrs ago the house went to my grandmother. It was all overwhelming to her so she made her eldest son, the con artist and theif be power of attorney. After a year of just constant bickering between my mother and him (this is her brother) he decided it was his way or the highway. so he took my parents to court and evicted them. They moved to a new place (that they love) and I moved in with Brian. It was a huge upsetting matter on me because my whole life I dreamed of being a bride and standing in front of the house i grew up in wearing my wedding gown. Having the same pose my mother had when she got married. Ever since my parents and I have considered my grandmother and uncle dead to us.Weight gain, oh yea i piled that on. New Years resolution, lose the weight.
There is the engaged on Sept 13 and fired from the job Sept 19 and was leaving for vacation on Sept 20. So that was a huge drown my sorrows in ice cream.
When I was out of work we fought a lot but it was mostly about money.
Its just been a bad 2002. I cant wait till this year is over. I have some wonderful events happening in 2003. My bridal party doesnt know each other so i am having a bridal party gtg Jan 18, Brian and I will be together 4 years Jan 25, then valentines day, our engagement party is in April, his birthday in June (he is turning 30) then my birthday in July. So I am really looking forward to a much better 2003

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
Oh My God....I've been putting on the pounds too. I'm so stressed over money right now I've just been stuffing my face every chance I get. And it stinks because my clothes are starting to get tight and I can't afford now ones now so that is making me even more stressed. I can't wait for the wedding to come but I almost wish it were over already.

Re: Its christmas eve, why are people so rude
kid same here...i dont fit into some of my clothes and money is tight so i cant go on a spending spree of new clothes. though i love parents, i told my mom i wanted clothes so she got me some new stuff..i love moms around christmas time.FI and I made a promise come the new year thats it we're joining a gym (I need to tone up) and we may join weight watchers. I put on about 20 pounds this year so my goal is to loose those 20 pounds. So I am enjoying all my sweets and gooey foods now because come the new year my goal is to be a lean mean, slim machine.
