I know a lot of brides have said hey are not doing a bouquet toss or a garter toss. Some people forgo to the cake cutting. In my household my mom is telling me about traditions I have never heard of. I have always been a fan of tradition. My friend who got married in April avoided them altogether. So...
What traditions are you using or did you use for your wedding? Are you doing the common ones... bouquet toss, cake cutting, old/new/borrowed/blue? Are there any traditions you are using that are less common knowledge? Maybe a family tradition? Or are you avoiding tradition all together?

Here is my answer....
As I said, I LOVE tradition. I still insist getting our Christmas cookies where my mom and grandmother went when they were kids. I drive my mom nuts over doing traditions at Christmas time.
So we are partaking in most of the common wedding traditions...
Even at my shower... I didn't cut ribbons, I gave pennies to people who gave me knives, and I did the bow hat
There are two traditions my mom did that I have never heard of, both of which she wants me to do.
The first is the ribbon ceremony. Just before the procession the GMs pull a ribbon down the pews, kind of locking people into them. Its very pretty. Then after the ceremony the GMs pull the ribbon back one pew at a time. I LOVE THIS... but I am guessing St. Pats will give me a hard time with it.
The other is the sixpence. Anyone ever heard this? Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue... and a sixpence in your shoe.' Sounds horrible to me, wearing a sixpence under your foot all day. They don't even make sixpence anymore, which is probably why we never hear about this. but my mom saved hers. She wants me to use it.
Oh and I forgot... a formal portrait. There is a formal portrait of my grandmother and my mother doing the same pose. My mom already talked to my photographer about doing the same one with me so she can put them all in a frame together.

We are doing some traditions but mostly going our own way. No bouquet toss, no garter toss. We are not making a big deal out of the cake cutting. However, I am doing the something old/something new thing. We are also doing the almonds which are tradition in my family.
My family definitely has more traditions than FH's.

we are doing the common wedding traditions like Bouquet Toss, Garter, Cake Cutting, Old/New/Borrowed/Blue
And as far a family traditions, i dont know if this is the same thing, but every wedding, or get together where there is a dj involved they have to play Shout and everyone gets in a circle...people then run into the middle and do the worm...lol not the worm your thinking of, basically we run into the middle and lay on or backs and kick our legs!
and my FH's family their family tradition is taking blackberry brandy shots!! everytime we get together with his fathers side a blackberry shot had to be taken! not the best shot in the world but its tradition so most of the time we dont have a choice! haha!
I have some interesting family traditions huh!

I am pretty traditional, so I'm doing cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss, old/new/borrowed/blue (but not the sixpence because I don't have one!).
We don't really have family traditions per se, I guess since I'm doing almonds as part of the favor that's an Italian/Greek thing, and I'd really like to do something funny with the garter removal, since I grew up hearing the stories of how my dad had a HUGE pair of red silk panties up his sleeve that he let fall out like that's what he removed LOL. FH is way too uptight to do anything remotely funny like that though, but I need to work on him.

Re: ~~It's Wednesday!! Today's QOTD!~~
I am doing the regular ones, but I think I might change up the BoK toss. FMIL said she went to a wedding where they asked married couples for 1-5yrs, 5-10yrs and so on onto the dance floor, then they gave the BoK to the coupld that have been married the longest.
I thought this was a great idea!! I don't have too many single girls and I think it would be fun to include the elder couples.

No garter/ bouquet toss, I feel like the single ladies don't want to do it anymore. I m doing SO/SN/SB/SB, and I have heard of the sixpence, but I don't have one. My family tradition is to fight from all the stress of the big Day, LOL!

We are doing some of the regular wedding traditions-except I think we are passing on the garter toss. I'm also doing some Italian traditions, like the almonds on the favors and tripe at the CH-even though FH and I dont eat it.
