IUI

IUI

Figured I would use this wonderful new board to go into our IUI.

We had our first IUI on Tuesday 2/17. We have to now wait 2 weeks before we can do a pregnancy test to find out if it worked. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed and saying lots of prayers. If it does not work, we will do it again next month. Now that I know more about it, I will be more involved in making the decisions with the doctors.

I figured I would post, so if anyone else is going through this, or may need to, it's great to be able to talk about our experiences to help each other out and to be supportive for each other.

Re: IUI

Liz, you are in my prayers. Do you mind me asking how many did they put in??? My GF did IUI and they put 6 in and only 1 caught, she was worried about selective reduction if all had caught. I wish you all the best sweetie.

I can't wait to have Graduates from this board. I have a sign you can use when it happens

Re: IUI

Shamma, it sounds like she had IVF. IUI is when they give you low stimulating drugs such as Clomid to stimulate your ovaries to produce one or more follicles. Than when you are ovulating (which can happen on your own, or they can give you a HCG shot to 'trigger' ovulation) you go into the RE's office and they inject the sperm into you.

IVF is where they harvest the eggs, then introduce the sperm to the eggs in the lab, then they take the fertilized eggs and inseminate. There you have so many that are fertilized, they put so many back in, and if you have enough you can have them frozen for future use.

Re: IUI

Liz, I've done 2 IUI's. Unfortunately, as you know, I've had to move on to IVF after removal of my tubes.

But, I know TONS of people that have had IUI success!!

I am going to do IUI this summer! May I ask you Liz, did your insurance pay or did you have to pay out of pocket? Was it umcomfortable like the HSG? I am also TTC! Good Luck!

I'm not Liz, but I did 2 IUI's and they were a breeze. They were nothing like the HSG! Mine was very painful!

I was lucky that my insurance covered it.

Re: IUI

Liz,

Best of luck!!

I go to the RE tomorrow and IUI is most likely the next step. I've been on Clomid and Femara -- I've ovulated on both but no success in getting pregnant.

I have a friend that did IUI after TTC for 4 years. It worked on her first try I think. If not the first then it was definitely the second. She and her husband both had medical issues so it was so wonderful that they were able to get pregnant on the IUI.

I may have more questions for you after my visit to the RE tomorrow.

Best wishes!!!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!!

-Stefani
