Hey does anybody know what exactly is a jack and jill party?

We did a shower in which the women were invited at 4:00 for a traditional shower with drinks and snacks. Men were invited for dinner at 6:00 and it became a jack and jill type of thing after that. Most people left around 9. About 20-25 men were there.

We chose to do it as well and it was so much fun! We decided to have the Jack and Jill instead of an engagement party.

yup jack and jill is for both men and women. we didnt plan to have one but DH got suckered into staying by all the ladies that were there and since he was staying my Dad said to hell with it so he stayed too! it was definitely alot of fun to have DH there to watch me open my presents!...and he was ready and on hand when it was time to load them into the car!!!!

yes, a jack and jill is for both boys and girls. it's a southern tradition. it's usually hosted by the bp and it's designed to be a 'fund raiser'.
the 'concept' behind the party is that the guests don't bring gifts, but they either pay for their food/drinks or there is a 'cover charge'.
to put it rudely, it's done so that the bp can re-coop some, if not all, of the money they spent on being part of the bp.
i'm not southern, and i didn't know what this was either. a co-worker informed me of this.
