For girls that are keeping their name in some way, shape or form... are you hyphenating? Or doing your last name, space, his last name?
I was all set to hyphenate, but the trendy thing to do seems to be the latter. Im wondering why this caught on and what people's reasons for doing it are?

Re: Jane Doe-Smith vs. Jane Doe Smith
I'm doing the latter (no hyphen) I think it's b/c it's a lot easier. Hyphens make it complicated especially at work when listing your name on a directory, when people address you as a couple they are often confused which one to use. This way your maiden name becomes your middle name.

I'm actually not kepping my last name...BUT
I also prefer the latter. And its very common out here. Lots of southern girls drop their middle names and do the Jane Doe Smith thing.
I think the hyphen makes it look like it belongson a court docket. I mean its relatively the same thing...but not having the hyphen makes it look less forced, more flowy....and well....aesthetically prettier.
Ok Mel....that made no sense...but you still love me!

I agree, no hyphen... I'm taking FH's name but if I were to keep mine, I'd do it without the hyphen as well. Good points ladies!

Well..Just be Jane Melissa Doe Smith
Who cares? How often do you write out your middle name anyways.
I mean...people say they 'drop' their middle name....but really youdon't ..I mean your middle name is your middle name....it ain't going anywhere girlfriend!!
Look...just be like most of my cousins...they apparently don't think twice about it... then again...they do live in puerto rico.........

Re: Jane Doe-Smith vs. Jane Doe Smith
I am dropping my middle name and putting my maiden name as my middle name. I will be taking his last name.
When you hyphenate the name the TWO names become your ENTIRE last name.... so you would always be Doe-Smith....
Making your name is a good option is if you would like to keep your maiden name to some degree, but really your last name will be your FH's name.
