Just curious, why you selected January. My parents got married on January 9th, 1948, in Ekton, Md. It was an icy day, and road crews thought Mom and Dad were crazy to be out on the roads!! Mary MOB

Re: January Brides
I actually wanted a Christmas wedding. But a good friend of ours got engaged first and chose Dec 15. Since our guest lists overlapped a LOT, we didn't want to stress out our guests so close to the holidays. So we decided to bump our wedding date back to January.
We knew we wanted Westbury Manor...and once they told us that they leave their Christmas decorations up until January 6, we were sold. So now our wedding is in Jan, but we'll still have the holiday decor up like we wanted!
Plus, I was able to get any vendor I wanted. Esp my photog...who told me if I had chosen a later date in January, she would have been on vacation. So now I'm her only winter wedding!

Re: January Brides
I picked it because it was one of the few weekend all my siblings had off from school
They go to school all over the country and with 6 siblings, it's hard to find time when it isn't difficult to get your family all together.
Plus, for my friends, I am getting married on MLK weekend and most of them get that Monday off

There are 6 kids in my family as well....and I had to decide on a date that would be good for my siblings since some of them will be away at school.
I did choose Sept 26 before we had to change it but it works out better now as Dec 20th since everyone will be home. The only thing that we have to be careful of is my sisters having finals or something that week in college. My sister this year wont be home until Dec 21st from school so hopefully next year we can figure something out if she can take finals early or what not.

Elizabeth, that sounds like good planning, in re: to everyone being off MLK. Do you have any future Rice relatives in Parkesburg, Pa.? That would be Chester Co. I went to HS with Tim Rice. Do you have any Brothers? I read about your Sisters. I wish I would have had a Sister!!! Mary MOB

Re: January Brides
Funny you say that Catie! My sister is in law school and is flying back to school the Monday before the wedding, going to lecture and then flying back in on Thursday night. We thought, based on her scheudle last year, that she would be off the week of the wedding, but as fate would have it, it is her first week of the term.
It works out well for everyone else though

Re: January Brides
Hi Mary
I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers and one sister in law so we are a big family.
My FH doesn't have any family in PA -- that would be a very cool coincidence, though!!

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Rices are distant relatives. How big is your FH family? Mary MOB
