I have curly hair and get it chemically straightened ... done this for years ....but it still takes me 30 minutes to dry it.
Well, I really want to the japanese straightening. From what I hear it will take me less than 10 minutes to dry it and look great. My only concern is that it will be too straight...with no body at all.
I am really nervous to do this. My wedding is 9 months away....do you think this is too risky to do? I just feel with my working out and the 2 weeks in Hawaii for the honeymoon...an easier hair routine will make me so much happier.
Help....what should i do?

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
Two of my best friends got this treatment done in Boston and they look fantastic! They struggled with long curley hair their whole life and couldn't be happier - while the treatment was very expensice (around $600) they said it was worth every penny! One of my friends told me that it comes out straight in the shower and even air dries pin straight! I say go for it!

My cousin had it done and she absolutely loves it. Her hair looks beautiful. She got done in the city. FM me if you want me to find out where.

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
I have done it 3 times. My hair grows really fast and it grows out. It is the best money I have ever spent. I walk out of the shower and my hair dries PIN straight, no dryer needed.
It is extremely straight, just like japanese people you see on the street. It is pin straight and extremely shiney. SO if you are looking for a lot of body you won't get it with this. I need mine redone every 6 months or so do to regrowth.
FM me if you want more details.

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
I went for a consultation one time in the city but wound up leaving and not wanting to do it anymore because I don't want it completely flat against my face. I blow my hair out all the time but like that I can flip the ends and give it body. If when you get yours blown out by a stylist, you want the 'Jennifer Anniston' look or Lucy Lui, then go for it! It's great - but I don't think that looks good on me! Hope this helps! I WISH I could do it!

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
FI's sister had it done there, and the guy cut me a deal. He charged me $750, it is normally $900. My hair is very long though, almost to my butt. I went there because I knew they did a great job on Mike's sister. People stop me on the street on a regular basis to tell me how shiney and healthy my hair looks. I sware it;s the best money ever spent.
I get it done every 6 months. the hair they put the chemical on never gets curly again, you basically just have to deal with the re-growth. My hair grows very fast, so I am deserate for it after 6 months. He won't give me a fill in before then. It is the same price for a fill in because they have to put a protectant on the hair that was already treated. It is a very long process, I am usually there the entire day.

Thanks for the info - maybe I'll look into it again. Takes too friggin' long to be blowdrying it all the time.

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
I feel your pain. Blow drying didn't even get my hair straight, I used to have to flatiron it to get it straight, then humidity killed it. Now I can stand outside in a rainstorm and come out with silky straight hair.

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
Kim, my hair sounds just like yours....kinky curly....ridiculous....every strand of my hair is SO thick. Its long about mid back and i just cant stand the maintenance.
I get it chemically straightened now and it still isnt straight....i still spend 30 minutes with the hairdryer. They say they can do the straightening over what i already had done. I guess that kinda conerns me too. Do you know if that is ok?
So if you dont dry your hair...how does it come out? Pin straight or slight wave/frizz. I couldnt imagine walking out of the shower with straight hair.
I know someone who got it done at SEI on the east side and someone at De Al in great neck...SEI was about 400 and De Al I imagine being a lot more $$$.
I really dont care too much about the money...if this would make me happy then i am all for it.

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
I have heard of SEI, not of the other one. I don't think it is a smart idea for you to put double chemicals on your hair.
I never dry my hair, I get out of the shower and leave. It dries pin straight. When I go out or have the time I dry it because it looks smoother.

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!
Well I got the straightening done last March. The places say they can still do the process no problem.
Have you heard differently...will this ruin my hair...yikes....this is what makes me nervous.
