Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!

Original post by Chloegirl

I have curly hair and get it chemically straightened ... done this for years ....but it still takes me 30 minutes to dry it.

Well, I really want to the japanese straightening. From what I hear it will take me less than 10 minutes to dry it and look great. My only concern is that it will be too straight...with no body at all.

I am really nervous to do this. My wedding is 9 months away....do you think this is too risky to do? I just feel with my working out and the 2 weeks in Hawaii for the honeymoon...an easier hair routine will make me so much happier.

Help....what should i do?

I would be very careful where you get it done. If they don't know what they are doing your hair can fall out.

For some reason I would not feel confident going there!!

Kim - do you color or hi lite your hair? Bc when I went for that consult here in the city way back, they told me they do not advise coloring your hair (or you cannot do it if you have color in it already) for obvious reasons. I have blonde hilights... hmmmm.

The place I am considering says color is fine. You just cant have it done 3 weeks before or after the process.

Really? That's good to know. I'm starting to reconsider the idea again but I just recently lopped a few inches off my hair so it's not nearly as long as it used to be when I was originally going to do it... so I wouldn't wanna cut much more off if it dried my hair out! Ahhh - decisions, decisions, decisions!

Jenhos just got it done recently at a place i go for my highlights in Queens. Very inexpensive & they do an awesome job.

I do not color or highlight my hair, but FH's sister does highlight hers. They have to do a double process. Basically they have to put a protectant on the highlighted pieces.

Also, the treatment made my hair healthier, did not dry out my ends.

ALso, Chloe is right about the 3 weeks before or after, that is what Mike's sister has to do.

i'm deathly terrified about drying out my hair. i guess that's what a consult is for! i don't have the thickest hair and some of it is layered so make it even thinner. maybe in a few months when the layers grow out a bit
oh - and i called harvey's to get their address. thanks!

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!

I will tell you know, the treatment def. makes your hair feel much thinner. because it pulls the cuticle of your hair together tighter, you feel like you have less hair. If you have fine thin hair I don't suggest it. But go for a consult, they would know better than me.

Good luck girls!

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!

You know what it is that I am worried about is my hair looking like I get it straightened. I want it to look natural not like overprocessed straight hair....ever see those people who straighten their hair and it looks like straw....yikes....I dont want that...that is what is holding me back. If it wasnt for that fear I would be on the phone right now making an appt.

Ok, that isn't likely to happen. I know exactly what you are talking about but this process will make your hair sily shiney. Trust me, one of the steps is they coat your hair in protein which makes it shiney. Go for a consult. It can't hurt.

I just did it last month and LOVE it!!! I only paid $150. The place I went was in woodside and was a rec. from someone on here. It's called the hair village. Let me know if you need more info!

The best thing that you can do is get a flat iron. Than section it in small sections. see how you like your hair with the flat iron thats pretty much what it'll look like with the japanese straightening
Edited for
Some people have great results others have to dry there hair a little to get the wave out. Also some salons say that they carry the Japanese straightening and its more like a generic brand always ask!

Re: Japanese Straightening Advice Needed!!

I have a question for girls who have had it done-
My friend got it done last year and her ends are very straight, and they look kinda weird. Did anyone else have this happen?
