Japenese Hair STraightening

I'm REALLY considering doing this once and for all. My hair is in between wavy and curly but is SO frizzy and unruly. I can't wash and go EVER. I either have to glob on gel to get the curls to hold and look good....or I have to use a brush and with gel comb it back into a ponytail. The hair on my head is so frizzy that if I didn't put get in it and tie it back, I'd look like a mess!!!!

ETA: I also dye my hair and have no choice but to keep it up due to grays......just thought you should know that too.

I know it's been done before, but can you girls give me the pros and cons of this treatment and share your personal experiences with me? TIA

well if you dye your hair you cant get it done, it can really damage it. I would go a bit without dying it before you do this. Not sure how long would be ideal to go without dying it before you do it but you can call up a salon and ask them what they would recommend.

I know there can be some hairdressers who will do it on dyed hair but ive heard horror stories of ppl who did, usually with highlighted hair though. What type of dye do you use.

I went to Hair Village in Woodside and they were great. However, you do have to be careful, very careful. I over did it and dried out my hair. It really depends on your hair type/texture and what not. If you are considering it you should make sure your hair is in super healthy condition and then consult your hair dresser. I loved it. I have very curly hair that I blow straight and it was a DREAM. FM me if you want more details.

I could go with the brazilian keratin treatment over the japanese straightening. The keratin treatment doesn't straighten, but it defrizzes and makes it 1,000 times easier to blow dry without frizz.

i am a styling assistant and work hands on with all of the straightners... if you do color i would definitely NOT reccomend doing the japanese straitening. also what a lot of people dont realize is once you do this straightning that is it. your hair will not do anything, i did not look at the date for your wedding but if you want any drop of a curl you will not get it. your hair will be dead straight with no volume.

another alternative is the keratin treatment which basically smoothes out the hair cuticle eliminating most frizz, you will still have to style but it will be a lot easier.

I agree with the Keratin treatment. FH owns a salon and my best friend who works for him does the treatment so good. The girls she has done came out so perfect. I would def go with that. If you need any information, FM me.

Hi, I was a stylist for many years at Devachan (curly hair salon experts) and an assistant for Mario Diab Salon. Honestly, I would say it is not recommended especially that you color your hair. Another thing is that if you ever decide to grow it out, it will be a big pain in the a$$. Trust me working in a hair salon for curly hair so many clients would come in for the growing out process. It was tough and they stuck thru it but it wasn't a pretty site. Before you do it, I would suggest you go to Devachan or Mario Diab Salon. Make an appointment to have a 'Hair Set Lesson' They will show you exactly what to do, and how to really take care of curly hair. I am a real curly girl! and I no longer work there but there products and the way the teach it really works!! If you want any more info let me know. You can also go to barnes & noble and buy the curly girl book. It's really good and it will teach you what to do and what not to do. If you want more info let me know and I can send you a hair prescription thru email designed just for you. I know how you feel and I feel for people that have to deal with our kind of hair. Btw, Devachan & Mario Diab is in the city but worth the trip. If you make an appt. at Deva I would suggest to make it with either Sophie, M.I.A, Susan, April. at Mario's i would suggest Carlos or Mario. They also used to work at Devachan.

Sorry for the long reply...
Many blessings!

Ok I have been doing the Japanese for about 8 years Now, - I have highlited hair -
It does dry your hair out But I still get it once a year right before the summer and then throughout the year I get the Brazilian Straightner - My recomendation would be to try something not as permanent first - Try the Brazilian or the Caribbean Dream first - Japanese is permanent and you will never get your natural hair back again unless you cut it off - And you have to go to someone that knows what they ared doing I go to a Salon in the City -

I have been doing Japanese straightening for about 5 years now. I used to go into the city( they were great-but not convenient for me because of travel) and now have been going faithfully to a woman in New Hyde Park. FM me if you would like her info. She is great. I do not color my hair, but I know of people that have used her that do. She is pretty honest with you about what you should and shouldnt do on colored hair and offers other straightening besides the Japanese straightening.
