FH has narrowed down his choice to those three. We still need to do some test drives, but I would love some feedback from anyone who owns these vehicles.
Thanks.

I can't figure out how he narrowed it down to those three.
The price difference alone is mind boggling!

I know. He's driving me (no pun intended) nuts about it.

You can get the Jeep at employee pricing right now... which will blow away the other two price wise.
I think a Liberty Sport can be had for 16k now.

wow, you're buying an SUV and gas is almost $3 a gallon... you're brave.
IMO, I would rather have the Nissan.

The new Xterras have a bigger engine than the older ones (i had an 04) so be prepared to spend A LOT on gas. They are also bigger, heavier trucks than the others you are considering.

Can I ask why you don't like it? That is the vehicle he is leaning towards purchasing.
As for being 'brave' for buying an SUV, we really aren't. FH uses a company vehicle to get back and forth to work (and I tag along since we commute together), so this new vehicle will be something we use to get around town and run errands, during bad weather, and on weekend trips. We would probably fill up the gas tank once every week to 10 days, if that often.

We have an xterra and we love it. We haven't had any problems. When we bought it (2002), we were choosing between the Liberty and the Xterra and I just hated the feel of Liberty when I got into it. The Xterra was a lot roomier inside. Since DH did all the research on the two, I have no idea about the technical matters (sorry). But it does cost me a hell of a lot more to fill the tank than it did when we first bought it.

I just filled up the tank for my DH today and it was $44. He commutes so it doesn't get used much. I drive a Porsche Boxster so I am a little spoiled and biased. The Liberty has really bad handling. I feel like I am all over the road when I am driving it. The emergency brake light is always on even though the brake isn't. DH doesn't like it either. I am not sure what he specific complaint is. I do like having an SUV since my car is so small. It is helpful when I need to pick up something big or do the groceries. The Liberty is leased luckily, but it was a long lease (like 4 years or something). Its due in January of 2007.

I would buy the Kia Sorrento out of the 3. Kia is owned by Hyundai now. Check out Consumer reports on this truck, and look at Msn.com for reviews, this truck gets rave reviews. Someone at my company owns one and she loves it. She has owned it since the first year it was released and she never had any problems. Also the 10 year 100k warranty is good to have too Scott

My brother has the Jeep Liberty. It's a nice car!! Only thing is it's a little bit of a tight squeeze IMO & it doesn't have a ton of storage space. He's happy with it though otherwise!! Sorry, I don't know anything about the other two!

I have heard from a person I work with that has a Liberty that they are HORRIBLE on gas. I have 2 friends that have the Nissan and love it.

My wife has the Liberty. We like it. If you have a lead foot and are Mrs Road Rage... you will get horrid gas mileage with the Liberty.
But if you drive 'normally'... you should be fine.
The Liberty has TONS of headroom. Plus the Liberty is practically all windows around the car so there are no blind spots.
Plus I think the Liberty looks the sexiest out of the three cars. And its probably priced the best (probably even cheaper than the Kia with employee pricing).

I am a very happy Liberty owner!!! It's a fun car, not too big, not too small. I think it handles very well. I call it my 'Chick SUV'

Happy 2000 Nissan Xterra owner here. No problems and we love it. Has over 100,000 miles on it and is still going Lots of room and very durable. DH used for work to go back and forth to city when we lived in NY. I love it and we plan on keeping it till it dies because it is such a good truck. Hope that helps.
