Do you know if the Macy's in Manhasset also appraises or just the one in the city?
If Manhasset does, do you think they appraise just as high?

call manhasset liz. i believe it's only 34th street where the gemologist is but i am not 100% sure. it's worth the trip to the city though. let me know what happens.

edited to say i was told macy's 34th st appraises the highest and i can definately vouch that this IS true!

I would NEVER EVER let my diamond out of my sight. The lady is totally professional & does everything in front of you, as should any gemologist or jeweler.

the cost of the appraisal will differ. It's a percentage of what your ring appraises for.

It can be kind of expensive but worth it for insurance purposes.

thanks, Jennbaby. When I called Macy's @34th St. regarding getting my ring re-sized, I asked if they'd do it in front of me, and whoever I talked to was like.. 'Well..... I don't know...I guess' and that made be VERY nervous!

I ended up getting it sized and appraised somewhere else. They did it in front of me, but I don't think they did THAT great a job re-sizing. (I can see where they cut it). And I have no idea about the appraisal, but I thought it MIGHT be a little low. So, I'm thinking of going to Macy's.

A relative is a jeweler and he sends all his e-ring cusotmers to Macy's in NYC. They give the best appraisals

well resizing & appraising are two very different things.
the appraisal is done by a gemologist. the resizing in macy's, i am unsure of because i have my own jeweler for things like that who is great!

I spoke to the lady on the phone, it was 1% of the appraisal cost, so if they appraise for $10,000, it will cost you $100.

Thanks Liz, forgot how it exactly went, but I know my aprraisal cost me several hundred dollars, thats why I say it was a bit expensive but it can't compare to if we ever lost it, got robbed or whatever. I'd rather have my original diamond than the money but just in case...
