Do you know if the Macy's in Manhasset also appraises or just the one in the city?
If Manhasset does, do you think they appraise just as high?

Claud wehn I called she said you didnt need an appt, you could come down anytime between 10-5 Monday thru Saturday

No, its' the gemology dept, it's on the 5th or the 6th floor, I forgot now, I have it written down at home

It is on the 9th floor past the post office. Its a pretty cool experience watching the person, depending on who you see, analyze the ring. I went twice: for the stone then went back with the stone set in the shank (sp?). They do everything in front of you.

She is not the only gemologist in the office. You can see anyone there that is available if you are in a hurry.

Do they take credit cards for the cost of the appraisal, and do you get your appraisal report in writing before you leave?

They do give you the appraisal in writing. Since I had the loose diamond, the jeweler gave me the GIA cert to take with me. The gemologist then took the small portion of it (summary of the big certificate) to write up all the specs on the appraisal cert. He returned it. Once FH had the diamond placed in the shank, and he proposed, we went back to Macy's and they took the old appraisal cert and made a new one adding the setting and shank specs on to it.

Not sure if accept CC's though. We paid in cash.
