Re: Jeweler Recommendation
I am not sure where his office is, but I use Greg Jezarian of GJezarian Jewelers ... gjezarian.com ... he is a personal friend of ours and will meet with you in the city or at his home in freeport (he brings stuff home for you to look at). He's great. Let me know if you want me to help you arrange something!

Specifically downtown? So do you want someone that works on that diamond strip on Bowery or will someone in the Diamond District in Midtown do?

Anywhere in the city is fine. I need a custom band. The places on the island have the jeweler there during the day - I can't afford to take a day off for it so I was hoping to find someone in the NYC. If you have any recs I would appreciate it

Re: Jeweler Recommendation
Norman Landsberg He's a great guy, been in the business many years and very respected. I didn't get my ring from him but he did my appraisal and he came very highly recommended to work with.
Greg Jezarian Also really great, very creative. SIL gets all her jewelry from him including her ering and band. DH was going to go with him until he met with BIL's private jeweler in the Diamond District and he liked her better for whatever reason, unfortunately she only goes by personal referral otherwise I'd say go to her cause she's super-talented with custom work.
They are both in the Diamond District.
Downtown on the Bowery, if that's easier for you, there's a small strip of jewelry stores, it's like a mini diamond district. This is one that got recommended a few times to my DH though we didn't use them.
The Bowery is nice because it's a smaller amount of diamond stores so a little less intimidating if you want to walk in and out of the stores and take a look. Most jewelers nowadays do custom work so it's just a matter of finding someone trustworthy. Good Luck!
