For those who bought wedding rings or other 'real' jewelry at one of the numerous booths upstairs at TriCounty, why are they so inexpensive? I can't help but be a little hesitant to buy there. Is it safe? Is there a catch? We need wedding rings, and want to make sure we aren't getting tricked or something. Thanks.

Re: Jewelry upstairs at TriCounty
I assure you it's real. Most vendors there vend in Manhatten as well. I bought FW's engagement ring there, and it was appraised by a pro gemologist (not a jewler that sells stuff) for 2000 more than I paid. They were annoying about the sizing, but it was the issue with sizing it so small, and the type of band it was. Long story.
All in all, I'm very happy with it. She loved it, and that's what counts. We'll likely go get the bands there too.
If you want to pay more because the store is a mall chain, that's cool.

My FH and his family have used a jeweler there for years. His name is Dominick and he is at Gabriel Jewelers (or something like that). Make a right when you get off the elevators...he's one of the free standing stands on the floor, not along the wall. My e-ring is from Dominick, and it was appraised at WAY more than FH paid for it. His family and I have been very happy with all jewelry purchased there.

My family has gone to TURKAN for years Mark is the owner with his wife. They are very nice and reasonable with their pricing. And they also do repairs. Good luck with your search

Re: Jewelry upstairs at TriCounty
My FH has bought jewlery from Gold Heart at Tri-County for the past 15 years...
The booth is directly in front of you as you reach the top of the escalator (the booth is white with gold lettering).
The owner is 'Fran' and her husband, 'Jim' - (I think that's his name!) We always deal with Fran.
FH bought my beautiful engagement ring there and we bought our wedding bands there - just picked them up last Saturday.
(He also bought my Movado watch from them as well as a gold & diamond bracelet).
About the engagement ring: FH didn't just pick something out of the display case. He told Fran what he was looking for (shape, size, quality and all that). FH met with her several times - to see her selection of diamonds (I think she brought them from Manhattan) until he found the perfect stone!
I'll probably buy gold bracelets from them as gifts for my jr. bridesmaids, flower girl and ring bearer.

Re: Jewelry upstairs at TriCounty
I think the low prcies have to do with the low overhead they have to sell there.
And most of them don't advertise, which saves them money.
My family has purchased many things from there.
The only problem I have with it is they get a little pushy because they are amongst their competition. Although, that probabaly lowers their price also, b/c it is very easy to shop around for a better price right in the same place.

Competition is good too though, because you can haggle them down if they know someone has similar stuff 1 booth over.

Yes, that's what I meant --price wise its great, sometimes its just too much pressure for me.
I'm not a good haggler.

Re: Jewelry upstairs at TriCounty
My future sister in law has shopped there and a friend of mine bought his girlfriend an engagement ring there - no problems. I did get a little turned off though by an article I read around Christmas about vendors at Tri-County trying to pass off lessor quality jewels as the good stuff. I'm sure it was just these couple of vendors who have now been caught but if I were you I'd go there only to a specific vendor by recommendation from someone. Anyway, I found an article on the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs website. Here's the URL.
We used Nami to make our rings. My FI bought my e-ring at another vendor there that I will not recommend because she was awful about the stone. In all fairness she finally got it right but after him going there practically 2x a week for 2 months.

This could happen anywhere. The best thing to do if you are wondering is to get it appraised.

Re: Jewelry upstairs at TriCounty
Like Jax430 we have been using Gabriel for the past year or so. We were recommended by a friend of mine whose aunt has been using them for years. We've bought earrings from them, our wedding bands, and we are looking to buy a chain for FH there as well, They give great deals and are really nice and patient!
