Great thread ladies I asked the Rabbi if I or my girls were allowed to wear strapless gowns. The rabbi siad yes as long as it is approriate. My dress does come with a shawl, the girls doesn't. The Rabbi also recommened this Jewish book to read 'The New Jewish Wedding'.

That is a great book! Happy Planning!

Re: Jewish Brides

Hi girls- well I am not 100% Jewish but we are having a somewhat Jewish wedding, FH grandparents wanted us to get married by a Rabbie ( they will be supplying) And I said ok my father is Jewish and my mom is catholic. FH father is supposed to be making our Chuppah-- he said he would but lately his parents word is not much to go on. And we will braking the glass at the end of the ceremony. My question is what other traditional aspects can we add???

well you can have a jewish marriage contract called a ketubah (if you are reform then you can have it with the Lieberman clause - basically a way out so that your husband automatically can give you a get if you had a civil divorce)
yarmulkes
thae rabbi can rap you both in a tallis
you can circle your FH 3 or 7 times
your rabbi can read the seven blessings

I would get the Ana Diamont New Jewish weddings book. that should help

Re: Jewish Brides

I saw that nobody posted on here for almost 2 months so I had to bump.

I am a Jewish bride, fiance is protestant. We are having a kosher wedding (for my mom and friends) but plan on having a rabbi and minister. Our wedding is in 7 months and 5 days (YIKES) and we don't have officiants yet.
I want a liberal rabbi who speaks fluent hebrew (preferrably Sephardic). I know that's a tall order but any suggestions

Re: Jewish Brides

I would look through the vendors here. If they perform interfaith ceremonies at all, then they are Reform and rather liberal. As for Sephardic, I think you would have to ask each one.

Sephardic Hebrew is the way modern Hebrew is pronounced. Almost every Reform Rabbi and Cantor pronounces Hebrew that way. If you are looking for the specific language of Sephardi Jews- that would be Ladino (a combination of old Spanish and Hebrew).

Just to clarify- do you mean you just dont want Ashkenazi pronounciation or do you mean to say that you want that Sephardi sound and flavor in your Rabbi and/or Cantor, or that, like I said above, that you want modern Hebrew pronounciation (which is Sephardic)?

Not every Rabbi and Cantor will perform an interfaith wedding with an officiant of another faith.

Good luck!

Re: Jewish Brides

Good news ! At my eparty Saturday we spoke to my FMIL's cousin's husband who is a rabbi. He said he'd be honored to do our wedding! He'd like to meet with us a couple of times before the big day so we can go over the ceremony and other premarital things. I'm really excited because I saw him do FH's grandmother's funeral and he did a great job.

That is great news! We just met ours last week. Be prepared to answer those real tough questions like 'Why are you marrying him?'. You think it's easy, but it isnt! Mazel Tov!
