Jewish brides...

Original post by MarryingMyBFF1110

Hi ladies,
Now I'm officially a Jewish bride lol.

Where did you girls get your:
Yamulka's
Chuppah

Thanks! Also - I just found out that to get married under Jewish law, you have to exchange solid bands, there can't be any diamonds or holes...

I have heard the 'unbroken circle' thing before.
But it has NOT always been the tradition for jewish couples to exchange rings. Many many traditional jewish husbands to this day to not wear wedding bands. An exchange would invalidate kinyan.
I think the solid band thing probably started out as what I mentioned (about having no question of its value) and evolved into the unbroken circle, just as breaking the glass has many meanings.

It's all real interesting..esp for me, bc I'm not so religious, yet now I'm having a religious ceremony :)

I will contact the Rabbi (after Shabbos of course) and see what he has to say lol

It's interesting to me too, but freakin annoying with all these rules!!!!

Anita Diamant's 'The New Jewish Wedding' is a fantastic resource.

The author is very into reform and conservative ways... not orthodox... I can see where u are getting confused..... the orthodox dont actually need 2 rings, but def. 1.. take a look:

What I was saying is that in the most traditional ceremony, there is no exchange. There is one ring given from groom to bride.

ETA: What I mean by exchange is that each party gives the other a ring.

The traditional jewish wedding is a contract. it's almosty like the groom is buying the bride for the price of the ring. If they exchange, then there's no contract. KWIM?

ETA: If you're looking for a more Orthodox approach, you can also consult 'To Be a Jew' which is a great resource as well for all things, but again, a very orthodox one.

My FH and dad are going to make our chuppah. My grandmother is going to make the top. My grandmother is also knitting the yamukahs.

Jewish brides aren't suppose to get married in a band with stones (but it really depends on the rabbi). My rabbi is going to marry me in two rings. A plain god band that my grandmother and mother got married in and my blinged out wedding band.
